CHICAGO (WLS) -- A man has been charged with allegedly stabbing two teenage boys with a metal fork on a flight from Chicago to Germany on Saturday, the Department of Justice said.

The DOJ said the alleged stabbing happened after meal service on the Lufthansa flight.

A 17-year-old boy was lightly sleeping in a middle seat when he allegedly awoke to see Praneeth Kumar Usiripalli, a 28-year-old Indian national, standing over him, the DOJ said.

Usiripalli allegedly stabbed the boy in the shoulder area before lunging toward another 17-year-old boy, who was sitting in the middle seat of a center row, the DOJ said. Usiripalli then allegedly stabbed that teen in the back of the head.

When crew members tried to subdue Usiripalli, the DOJ said he allegedly formed a gun with his fingers, put it in his mouth and pulled an imaginary trigger.

The suspect then allegedly turned toward a female passenger and slapped her with his hand. Usiripalli also allegedly attempted to slap a flight crew member.

The DOJ said the flight was diverted to Boston Logan International Airport, where officials took Usiripalli, who was previously admitted to the United States on a student visa, into custody. The DOJ said the suspect does not currently have lawful status in the U.S.

Usiripalli is charged with one count of assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to do bodily harm while traveling on an aircraft in the special aircraft jurisdiction of the United States, the DOJ said.

If convicted, Usiripalli faces up to 10 years in prison. He will appear in federal court in Boston at a later date.

Lufthansa issued a statement, saying, "Lufthansa confirms that flight LH431 (Boeing 747-8, 363 passengers) operating from Chicago O'Hare International Airport to Frankfurt am Main was diverted to Boston on Saturday, October 25, 2025, where it landed safely.

The diversion was necessitated by the behavior of an unruly passenger, who was taken into custody by local authorities upon arrival. Consequently, the onward flight to Frankfurt did not continue as scheduled.

During this period of high hotel occupancy in the Boston area, Lufthansa made every effort to ensure that all passengers were provided with hotel accommodations and were rebooked on the next available flights. We sincerely regret the inconvenience this situation has caused and appreciate our passengers' patience and understanding.

The safety and well-being of our passengers and crew are always Lufthansa's highest priority.

Wtf is this diversity training b.s. linguistics being used - "unruly passenger"? The sob STABBED two teenagers. This is a brutal and brazen armed psychotic attack by an illegal Indian immigrant!

We'll all know which sh*t-for-brains to blame when Lufthansa announces a ban on forks on their planes.

Bible-loving man unlawfully living in Chicago 'stabs two teens with metal FORK in frenzied mid-air attack'
The aircraft was forced to reroute to Boston’s Logan International Airport, where police apprehended him upon landing.

Usiripalli has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to cause bodily harm.

Authorities said he previously entered the US on a student visa and was enrolled in a master’s program in biblical studies, but no longer holds legal status in the country, the US Attorney’s Office said.

Usiripalli attended the Moody Bible Institute, which is a private evangelical Christian Bible college in Chicago, Illinois. The school has been contacted for comment.

He was living at an address in the Edgewater Glen neighborhood, just a few miles north of Chicago, at the time of his arrest, according to online records.

Usiripalli's charge carries of a sentence of up to ten years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

Sooner or later India is going to pass some kind of legislation for defamation of the nation for uncouth behavior abroad, which tarnishes the national reputation. Unfortunately, with so many Indians abroad and with Chinese tourists starting to behave themselves better the ire of the world will be on Indian tourists.

For India, with how globalization is going, or not going, the really got the short end of the stick, as they need a good reputation to attract investment and business cooperation that gives them preferential access to global markets.

Only time will tell if Indian growth will be fast enough to overcome the first time tourists hitting their reputation.

Nah, there are already people to blame for that

Most airlines don't carry metal cutlery after 9/11 for this exact reason. So that they cannot be used as a weapon. In fact, the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) banned any metal cutlery on any Australia-bound flight.

The question I want to answer is more toward how an illegal Alien (as per DOJ) got on an international-bound flight from Chicago to Germany.

From my understanding, an out-of-status individual is free to leave, and his entry/exit form will be stamped (digitally); the only time he'll be stopped is if he was already wanted for a crime before his departure.

In my opinion, in this case, he just needed a reason to stay in the States and be fed. He could have easily gotten a knife or another sharp object if he wanted to kill.

I thought all international carriers now had tasers and restraints for passengers like this.

Crew and passengers just subdue him, restrain him and keep tasing him every 30 mins until they land at nearest airport.

I don't have any experience being deported, so I can't say for sure, but I just asked my wife, coincidentally, she was a former flight crew (she used to work with SAS and Qantas) and a lawyer. She said you need a visa to board a plane; you can't just get on a plane without a visa or authority to travel, or the check-in desk wouldn't board you. And if you check in without any valid travel document, they would call immigration on you.

If you were deported, you can only get on a ticket to your country of origin, and CBP would have an agent escort you to a flight and make sure you got on. You can't get on a flight to Germany, and this is from befor Trump, they will probably lock his arse up if he show up in an airport without status.
