France sees India as a cash cow and India wants France so they can provide technology for their AMCA, LCA and jet engine technologies. This explains ridiculous price for mere 150~ Rafales.
J-10 is Rafale F3 killer and J35 will be Rafale F4 F5 killers
It will be interesting to see if the RBE-2XG radar is any good in detecting stealth at 200km, or if is snake oil/vapourware like Spectra was. One to watch.
The F4 variant will bring networking, data fusion and datalinks to the equation, and so will is a significant upgrade for India. I still maintain that all India needs is the Global Eye to form a network centric
aerial kill chain around a large fleet of Rafales. That won't be the same as the multi-domain network centric kill chain that Pakistan has, but a significant upgrade and better than the patchwork sh*t show they currently have.
The capability of F4 is significant for India, and while the PL15E will outreach the Meteor, the F5 variant will bring with it "new weapons", so we don't know what that will be yet. I wouldn't write off the Rafale that easily imho. They will be a counter for it from China for sure.
The fact that France has recently purchased the Global Eye is significant to me, as you can be sure they will fully integrate that platform with the Rafale, and the Indian's will get that integration work on their Rafales which will replicate the setup that Pakistan has for aerial CEC engagement if they then go on to get the Global Eye.
Yes, there is some "is'ism", but that "if" and "is'ism" is around only one platform, ie GlobalEye.
I appreciate the Rafale order is not a done deal yet, but I will be astounded if it does not make it all the way to completion. There is too much of an issue that the IAF has right now, for that to not get signed off and I do think the Indian government and opposition know that.
