The Afghan Ministry of Defence claimed to have downed a Pakistani jet and capturing a Pakistan pilot.

Yea but even in the recent skirmish they were second in the line. Rafales will be front line of IAF now

That is only because PAF now operates a superior platform to the f16 in the form of j10c, which is optimised to carry a very long range bvr (range in excess of 200km). Plus its aesa radar and sensory suite is far superior to anything that the f16 has.

But having said that, it certainly does not make the f16 inferior in any way. its just that the PAF has replaced it tip of the spear ie a f16 with a j10c.

Not sure of the validity. This was first reported an hour ago and I've yet to see any on-the-scene videos, especially from Facebook/Twitter. It would have spread like wildfire by now.

It's possible their own aircraft was shot down, be it a training aircraft or drone, etc, and the explosions/"aircraft" they're claiming is of theirs. But who knows, maybe it could be one of ours shot down.
