Turkey was assigned its role in the west as a workhorse and manager of ISIS affairs for the coalition , and gladly accepted those roles and keeps fulfilling their related tasks today.

Fair points but as long as Iran was the bad guy, Turkey and GCC could take West's side against it and reap the benefits. A world where Iran is neutered means Turkey and GCC lose relevance and will be eyed by Israel, which tolerates no potential challengers.
