Also worth remembering Afghan Army org is a bit weird and set up very differently to Pak Army and other conventional armies, including numbers

Basically Afghan Corps = Pak Army Division
Afghan Brigade = 1-2 Pak Battalions

They do not have a Corps-Division-Brigade-Battalion structure like most other armies.

Also worth noting that a typical Pak Army Infantry Corps will have massive supporting units attached (like an Armoured Brigade, Artillery Brigade, Signals Battalion, Air defence battalion etc etc), Afghan units do not have this.

I am actually surprised by this news, because Guardian news is generally quite credible and that's why I follow it. But what's the evidence behind it and what sources did they cite is questionable.

Very harsh terrain. 3000 -5000 meters.
Pakistan cannot occupy it. No infra. And supplies cannot be airlifted for very long. Pakistan should try to buy the strip though.
May be some land incursions, supported by air, and eventual settlement with Afghan govt to purchase it as a broader agreement, quid pro quo.

yes..
It's extremely tough.. close to some of the highest points on Hindu kuah mountain range.. but its a choice between managing a 13 kms harsh terrain vs 106 kms.

As long as NRF actually agree to stop the Durand Line nonsense. Even then Pakistan should keep them fully defanged at all times. Looking at last 80 years, Pakistan should not trust any side on Durand line issue.

The only silver lining with NRF is that they will not mingle with the Pashtun Nationalist elements on Pakistan's side, rather oppose them, which will be the perfect thing for Pakistan.

they dont cite anything , they just say afghan goverment said --- but they know what they are doing .

When western press states the author of any south Asian news item as "generic staff", that simply means it is an Indian origin journalist. They remove the name to avoid accusations of conflict of interest leading to biased journalism.

There are lots of Chinese drones and heavy lift QC now a days . Wonder why it can't be used in supplying stuff to forward positions. We should be switching to drones in every aspect of war.
