Honestly, it is Kabuki theatre. India had made a vague commitment to stop buying Russian oil over an undefined timeframe in return for lower tariffs. India had reduced actual purchases as a sign of good faith. However, now the US Supreme Court has declared those tariffs illegal , it is unclear what Trump would do if India ramped up Russian oil purchases again, which India had apparently started doing even before the US gave the "waiver". So, at this point, the "waiver" is just a signal to the market that the US does not have a problem with India lifting Russian barrels at least until the war lasts and the market should therefore factor in less demand from India for other sources of oil and price them lower.

you have to account for in-coming gas shortage as well

further, your $ shortage also needs to be controlled, otherwise, investments will not be worthwhile and capital will flee

An opposition political party? Seriously?

I don’t even want to repeat what Imran Khan has been saying about the current government in Pakistan.

And India is still buying oil from Russia. As I said before, it was never really stopped. If you check the latest data, Russia remains the top supplier of oil to India.

Getting a waiver from the United States would simply make things easier. But even if that waiver doesn’t come, it doesn’t change much because India has already been receiving oil continuously from Russia. In other words, the supply was already there.
