I agree that Kharg is too far inside the Persian Gulf. I think Qeshm island near the tip of Strait of Hormuz might be the target. Once they have the island, they will move anti drone and anti missile hardware there to convince the tankers and insurers that now the US controls the Strait of Hormuz. The zionist UAE is also far more likely to host these Marines than Kuwait or southern Iraq.
