The goal is to use that point to amass more troops and move along the coast creating a buffer zone. Which will eliminate the threat of Iranian CMs on naval ships and allow them to come into the Persian Gulf and help maintain the buffer zone.

If Iran loses control of its coast, it will lose the war.

Also, Tehran simply needs "friends" right now, literally anyone who will help pay the bills. Am sure concessions have been extracted for each tanker of any nation that passes through Hormuz. Fair enough. It is simple wielding of "geographic leverage", which any pragmatic nation would do in this scenario, especially given the decimation of Iran's conventional strength.

Iran definitely has planned for the long game and this is perhaps part of an irregular/unconventional strategy for long term survival against overpowering military superiority.

But yes, they are playing a dangerous game. They know how Afghans sold them out in the last war. They should be well aware by now that Delhi is yet another snake in its backyard. Can they keep it from actually bearing its fangs? It is worth remembering that Delhi provides plenty of munitions for Iran's enemy.

Taking over an Iranian island i dont doubt in the US ability to do that. This situation is very different to Venezuela. This is an active war there is no element of suprise and there is no insider ready to hand over the Iranian lesder, even if there was we can see the system does not run on a single person.

Also at what cost is it worth trying to take kharg or other island, no doubt the US will suffer losses.

If trumpy really wants a ground campaign then I think his waiting to deplete Irans missile and drone capability, how long that will take is anyone's guess.

Putin also started a special military operation and his been stuck in it for over 3 years. This could turn into the Ukraine 2.0, especially if Russia and China provide covert material support.
