Islamabad Talks - News & Discussions

Honestly, those mid level ISI officers need to learn to keep it in their trousers, a woman scorned.....

To be fair, sometimes they need to 'pump' for information, or influence. The ask can sometimes be large, for one's country.

Abdul Basit has spent too long in the Singapore monsoon heat.

This is a "free hit" as far as Pakistan is concerned.

We tried where nobody else had the wherewithal to try, and if peace fails, we are back to where we all were a week ago, not worse off, nor better.

These journos need clickbait to sustain their careers.

yeah these days they're all trying to milk it as much as they can, before becoming irrelevant, like what happened to them when they retire at 60 from Govt Service
Basit was High Commissioner in New Delhi too and he didn't really make great changes there for our people...

Most of these ex-ambassadors are irrelevant and not even well-versed on intl politics and geopolitics as they're just paper pushers and fund eaters of the embassies where they're posted.

i could write pages on all these ex-ambassadors and their shit and shenanigans on state payroll.

This would be a valuable separate thread.

Update the news in chronological order.

1. Pakistani sources: The tripartite talks were held face-to-face between U.S. Presidential Envoy Whelkoff, U.S. Vice President Pence, Trump’s son-in-law Kushner, and the Iranian Parliament Speaker Kalibaf, Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi, as well as the Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan.

2. On the 11th local time, Iran stated that it detected a U.S. destroyer sailing from the port of Fujairah in the UAE toward the Strait of Hormuz. After closely monitoring its movements, the Iranian armed forces immediately informed the Iranian delegation negotiating in Pakistan. The delegation then conveyed the relevant stance to the U.S. through the Pakistani mediator and issued a clear warning to the destroyer: if it continued to approach the Strait of Hormuz, it would be struck within 30 minutes, and the negotiations would also be affected. Due to the firm response from the Iranian armed forces and the timely warning by the negotiation team, the U.S. eventually ordered the destroyer to stop and turn back.

3. April 11 – local time 11th: Iran reported that the U.S. agreed to unfreeze Iranian assets and agreed to a ceasefire in Lebanon. The U.S. has not yet released related messages.

4. Iran-U.S. negotiations enter the stage of expert consultations.

5. According to Iran’s state television: Senior Iranian military officials denied reports about any U.S. ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

6. According to Iran’s state television: Iranian expert teams joined the Islamabad talks.

7. Trump: If negotiations with Iran do not progress smoothly, the U.S. is ready to “restart.”

8. April 11 – local time 11th: According to Pakistani sources, Iran and the U.S. have started direct talks in Islamabad, with both sides “sitting at the same table.”

9. April 11 – The Israel Defense Forces issued a statement saying that within the past 24 hours, the IDF struck more than 200 Hezbollah targets in Lebanon.

10. According to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency: U.S.-Iran negotiations may be extended by one day; the talks were originally scheduled for one day, and whether they will be extended is still uncertain.

11. Pakistani sources: U.S.-Iran negotiations lasted for 2 hours, after which the delegation took a break.

12. U.S. White House officials: The tripartite peace talks between the U.S., Iran, and Pakistan are taking place in Islamabad. U.S. expert teams in relevant fields have arrived in Islamabad, with more experts providing support from Washington.

Here are my views.

Israel has again violated the agreement by striking Lebanon. The U.S. once again threatens Iran before and during negotiations, attempting to increase its bargaining chips; this is a clownish behavior. The U.S. and Israel lack integrity, and even if a ceasefire agreement is reached, it will be fragile. I am pessimistic about achieving peace. However, the role of negotiations is positive, as it can help Iran gain greater influence and international support.

Latest news: According to Iran's official media Press TV, Iran and the United States resumed talks in Islamabad after a recess.

Vance's body language seemed very positive, maybe I am reading too much into this
Bro he wants a peace settlement so he can put it on his CV. They all want it - the bone in the kebab is Israel - they dont want peace.
Strange the only 2 nations are Israel and India. Very strange.

Strategically India, Israel and UAE will lose the most from this, so I expect them to get more close, however geography is a major stumbling block for then here....
