Curiosity. Vietnamese always call China as “middle country”. There is no translation for the term “China”. Never use it.

Official news reports have not yet disclosed a detailed list of cooperation documents. We will need to await further updates.
Will not be any major things. The visit of To Lam is a continuation of reappointment to China.
What’s difference this time is just the very early visit. likely due to global tensions Vietnam wants to reach a common understanding as early as possible.

If first time visit, you don’t want culture shock, don’t want large crowds of people, you want similar western style then I would recommend Danang. Most foreigners love it.

Vietnam's top leader travels to Nanning on high-speed train, highlights rail cooperation with China

By VNA April 16, 2026 | 01:21 am PT

Vietnam's Party General Secretary and President To Lam, his spouse, and the high-ranking delegation of Vietnam departed Beijing on Thursday morning for a visit to Nanning City, continuing their state visit to China.

They travelled by high-speed train after concluding official activities in Beijing, accompanied by Chinese officials including Liu Haixing, head of the International Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee; Chen Zhou, deputy head of the same body; and Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam He Wei and his spouse.

During the journey, leaders of Chinese railway businesses briefed the Vietnamese leader on the rapid development of the local rail system. As of early 2026, China’s operational railway network has reached 165,000 km, including about 54,000 km of high-speed rail – the largest in the world, accounting for over 70% of the global total.
