India Foreign Policy Thread

India should have shown more spine after being committed nearly 3 decades.

Iran needs to take note, better get friendly with the Chinese, trumpy respects them much more.

I don't understand. If India claims to be independent and sovereign, why isn't it simply telling the Americans that it will go ahead and continue to operate at Chabahar.

India should have shown more spine after being committed nearly 3 decades.

The Indian leadership is trying to give this a different spin. Strategic change as opposed to crumbling to US pressure. Whatever that means.

Fatherland-motherland relationship was deemed to be more important than "decades of goodwill", "geography", "leverage".

The India of Narendra Modi has little actual ambition, beyond being a well paid kept woman.

I understand Congress are equally hostile to Pakistan but at least they had some guts to make decisive plays in a geostrategic sense.

No doubt. Modi is folding under pressure. This isn't independent policy.

Let us not overlook the fact that India will face growing challenges in balancing its relations amid the deepening enmity between Iran and the UAE. Since India claims to be a great ally of both, it cannot keep appeasing both sides indefinitely.

The Irony, Iran hold modi by the balls right now with respect to SOH.

Indian government faces surmounting pressure from opposition but significant loud voices from within the union government with regards to the question of promised encirclement of Pakistan and China.

However 'Indian pragmatism' has proved time and time again to be a safe bet and as Indian economy flourishes, it remains a safe bet.

*Indian pragmatism means employing traits which has made India a symbol of perversion and piracy.
Indian pragmatism as expressed by Indians seems to be avoiding anything that is a difficult decision, on the surface it may sound prudent but it erodes all of the other rhetoric about being a power of any kind.

India has already started the process of opening to China as a junior economic partner, the quad is where it is and in brics India is allegedly suppressing any criticism of what is happening in Gaza, or anything happening to Iran

Each of those decisions you could safely argue are avoiding taking any type of position or stand

Anybody can tell the US to do one, but the US controls the global financial system.

If countries don't listen, the Americans can limit that country's access in so many fields in so many ways, that it becomes unfeasible to oppose the US.

Again, the US simply controls the global financial system.

The Americans do exactly that and Modi is finding out the hard way.

India pre Modi had some diplomatic pull. The Doon class are seriously sophisticated, one meets them here at universities and in professional circles. India rejected that leadership and went for a chaiwallah with no education. Pakistan got lucky, very lucky. India is led by a buffoon who is ruining nearly all India's relationships and torching its reputation.

I hope Yogi is the next PM.
Yes and no.

Sure, Pakistan got lucky in a manner of speaking.

But vote bank politics in Hindustan always guaranteed the voice of illiterate and unwashed saffronist hordes being ultimately represented when they acquire enough money to afford an Internet connection and drown in the ego-massaging electronic media effluent that they only ever dreamed about hitherto. The delusional echo chamber is 1.5 billion strong thanks to the internet. Saffronism is never going to be undone now. This was all the inevitable consequence (not a random alignment of stars) of Hindustan.

Indians take an 'Indian position' towards any posed question. An Indian position can be described as whatever self serving interests that can be achieved without risking to spend even a toenail clipping.
