Pakistani National Anthem.

I have seen several but his one, to me, seems like the best with the visuals and the onscreen English captions??

I think there are several variations of the Pakistani anthem and to put a personal touch to that is not changing too much. What is objection? Every post posted with a video has to conform to the video's title? Why can't we have some 'subjective' opinion? There are many instances of Pakistani anthems but none does the justice like the OP video with the subtitles.

It's a forum rule. I've asked you nicely. You can always go to GHQ to get the rule changed. I haven't singled you out - it's the same for everyone. Thanks

How much of the population understand the ballad's lyrics?

It would come as a major surprise if more than 40 percent of the populace can actually understand it.

IMO, melodies themselves are a magic. I even enjoy classical Italian operas without understanding the words. Same way with the Pakistani national anthem which I do understand, of course.

Did I ask about your interests in Opera or Oprah?

Beautiful and very moving.

It matters not. Do you think Indian national anthem is understood by everyone there?

Are you of the opinion that the lyrics should be taken out and only melody left if people cannot understand the alien language of the anthem?

Do you believe India is a nation? It seems like a colonial entity.

People should raise the level of their literacy so they comprehend. A national anthem is no more, no less than a piece of poetry. Some take to poetry naturally, others don't. It is as simple as that. I can guarantee there are many in the West who don't truly understand the meaning of their respective national anthems either.

Also, what is so alien about Persian when a third of Urdu vocabulary is Persian?

Poetry is a powerful tool meant to inspire and uplift. For all intent and purposes, it is designed to strike the chords of the soul.

Urdu itself seems alien and imposed upon the populace if you believe regional intellectuals.

Only extreme ethno-nationalists complain about Urdu as being "imposed". We, as a nation, needed a common medium to converge on. Nobody wanted "angraizi" and people did not want "Hindi" thus Urdu (which was not alien to the land either having been the language of the Mughal court).

While Urdu became synonymous with the "migrants", what is to be noted is that the "ownership" of this language included many a shining lights emerging from what became Pakistan of today. After all, who can deny the impact of Muhammad Iqbal, Sadat Hasan Manto, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Ashfaq Ahmad, Anwar Masood (all from Punjab) and Ahmad Faraz (KP) among others?
