Every missile is useful — even the SA-2 would still be useful. Older missiles force the target to change route, and that route may then be covered by an HQ-16 that was not visible on the screen. What I missed in the conflict were the MANPADS on our side, from Stinger to Anza-3. @Panzerkiel — what’s up, my old Freund — it’s me, Inception-06. Did the MANPADS also see action in the last battle in 2025? I saw some videos online, but many were deleted later. I wasn’t sure, but it looked like MANPADS were fired from our side.

Definitely not the SA-2, it was made to intercept high flying bombers, against lower flying fighters it had a 8-9% hit rate in Vietnam, it had a massive physological effect as Americans the falsely attributed aircraft lost to AAA to SA-2s

Not to mention the Fan songs probably can't even see such tiny drones.

sorry I had not read the whole thread properly- I thought it was about air crafts. But what’s about our MANPAD action ? (Now so much highlighted in the current Iran-US conflict).

Continuing with this people don't really realize Ack ack still remained by the far the biggest threat to aircraft till like the 80s when PGMs made it so that aircraft didn't have to do low level bombings to improve accuracy.

In Vietnam SA-2s biggest effect wasn't the the hits it achieved, but the fact it forced pilots to fly low which exposed them to the real killers, AA guns.

Especially the 37MMs which were paired with radars and 12.7MM Dhsks, they were responsible for shooting down 70% of the aircraft the Americans lost in Vietnam.

20% were lost to larger AA guns like the 57 flak cannon and 10% were lost to SA-2s and VPAF aircraft.

In essence Vietnam had the first integrated air defence network in the world.
