Well looking at the living conditions of these folks out here then I would question why they are being sent here in their droves. Of course the salary is higher compared to what they could make back in India and they can send lots of GBP home but that is a function of exchange rates and a complete paradigm shift in GDP per capita between the nations of India and GB. But in local terms, squatting ten to a bedsit for minimum wage and being exploited by other Indians is very much indentured servitude, at best! Like I said, if this suffices for them, then each to their own I guess. Why wouldn’t our youngsters and their families take pride in the work they do?
For many of them their starting salaries are far higher than what their parents ever earned. That means savings, dignity, upward mobility and a better life. Calling that 'servitude' is just snobbery.
