Bangladesh plans $2.2b purchase of 20 Chinese J-10 fighter jets

Bengalis are smart. They can leverage their relations with big powers to stay out of a direct conflict. India, China, USA & to a lesser extent Pakistan, can all counter balance each other & Bangladesh can carry on as it does.

Bangladesh is a small country with a big population. It has no ambitions within the region & beyond. Its rightfully concerned about economics more than anything else.

Embarking on armament is going to create more threats for Bangladesh than bring security. A squadron of J10s or Typhoons is only going to invite a couple or more squadrons from India & Myanmar on its borders. Bangladesh can not afford to be seen as a threat to India & does not want to antagonise India.
L take. With a growing economy you need a military capable of protecting that economy through deterrence. Economy will not grow if big powers can bully you for their advantage.

No such thing.

India invaded a Pakistani province along with Mukti Bahini terrorists, dismembered it and installed a puppet Government. The End.
You give too much credit to indians. By that you effectively say pakistan army is trash. Which it was not even in 71 standards.

The way the Bangladesh gdp is growing and Forex they may end up with the biggest fleet of j10s In the region

Not even remotely comparable geography and demographics.

The pattern is clear and depressing
Syria - 10% Alawite minority rules 80% Sunni majority
Iraq - 20% Sunni minority beats 80% Shia/Kurd majority
Libya - a small clan beats the whole population
Myanmar - small junta beats 50% ethnic minorities and even Burmese ethnic group dissidents for decades

Short of armed help from external actor East Pakistanis are condemned to servitude., Some of the moderators and other posters will be happy carrying water for the West Pakistanis

Not calling judgement here - pointing out realities

They don't fear a existence threat like Pakistan fears from India or Israel fears from .the Arabs

It's your perceived threat matrix
Bangladesh wants nothing really from it's neighbours and they want nothing from them

It's perfect situation. To concentrate on their economic growth something they have done well

Today they are strong regional economic power.

Look at the contrast with other states knee deep in debt and massive perceived security concerns or perceived historic border disputes... spending money on defense they can't sustain long term crippling their gdp and forex
Bangladesh is one of the few low-profile, pragmatic Muslim-majority countries in South Asia and the Middle East that has pursued steady development. It has not become obsessed with extreme religious slogans. It is also one of the fastest-growing economies in South Asia in recent years.

In recent years, as China has exported labor-intensive industries overseas, Bangladesh has received a considerable amount of China’s textile industry and related markets.

The Army wasn't trash, the military didn't have the capabilities back then to defend a province that was more than 2,200 km away.

Buzdil India hasn't been able to repeat that sort of invasion and terrorism on any of the Western provinces to date.

We will have our revenge against India sooner or later Insha'Allah.

Yi'it dushtu'u yerden kalkar - A brave hero rises up from the place where he falls down

It all started in 1906 by the Nawab of Dhaka (strangely, the family's origin was in Kashmir). In 1971 in Dhaka, it received it's biggest hiccup. And, from Dhaka it'll launch its final journey to greatness, Insha'Allah. And, it's the final and full revenge....

Yes but when war is forced on Bangladesh in future when they are a trillion gdp by 2040 imo easy the can deal with it because they did the hard work first
Economic economics economics
Ten years from now, Bangladesh is likely to become one of the most economically developed countries in South Asia and to have one of the highest GDPs per capita among the region's three major countries. Bangladesh urgently needs to strengthen its military capabilities and modernize its armed forces.

If BD wants to survive then they will need to open up their territory to Pakistani and Chinese intelligence and military.

There is no free lunch in this neighborhood. They are in no position to play the neutrality game.

If they don't pick a side and arm themselves, India will consume them eventually. Economy means nothing when you are weak, it can disappear overnight after a few HVT airstrikes.

And that invasion happened in a Vaccum ?

Your interpretation of Historical facts is giving Hasbara vibes. Let’s not lie to ourselves anymore. There is no need for it.

Bureaucracies are cold & cynical, especially a colonial one that had to assess, recongnise & read different cultures & nations to rule over them.

Both sides were equally prejudiced & bigoted. 1971 was always in the offing. It could have been slightly less bloody.

India was merely opportunistic & frankly pretty stupid.

Yahya was debauched & a pretty useful idiot. Islamists were naive & delusional, while Biharis the actual victims of the whole tragedy.

The way warfare is headed to, Bangladesh doesn’t need Squadrons of jets. There are other more effective & less visible options to build deterrence & security. Big powers are almost always bullies, it’s the nature of power. But they are almost always easier to manipulate too & successfull smaller powers are always more manipulative & clever. Bangladesh is clever as any other nationality or state in the region.

who is going to occupy bangladesh?

Although it’d be extremely foolish of India to attack or get in to hostilities with Bangladesh, but you can’t put it past the low iq lecherous lot in charge of India these days. In their desperation & in a bid to save their image they might just do the unthinkable.
