No, I meant whole purpose of NATO is to consider an attack on one country as attack on whole. So if Israel attacks Turkey and NATO do not retaliate, then whole purpose fails. Who would trust such an alliance then ? Already US is saying that NATO is a paper tiger.
Secondly, if you see rationally Israel can do enormous damage to Turkey in a surprise attack. Can eliminate its civil/mil leadership, destroy / disable a lot of airbases, lot of naval bases etc. Even if some Turkish fighter jets survive and get airborne then what chances they have against F-35s ? Even Israeli F-16s have much longer stick then Turkish counterparts.
In retaliation Turkey can throw some BMs but Israeli air defense would intercept most. Turkey has not built massive number of BMs like Iran. Turkey also haven't prepared for this kind of war. It relies on traditional / legacy systems. Do Turkey have as many underground missile bases as Iran ? Certainly not. Do you think slow moving turkish drones are any threat to Israel at all? Turkey don't even have a 4.5 gen fighter aircraft at the moment.
So yes, Turkey might need NATO and even if it needs or don't need, the real test of NATO would be to assist its ally versus Israel and that will not happen. Anyways, this whole talk was based on hypothetical scenario that Israel would attack Turkey. I don't think so. They have trade relations and bilateral diplomatic relations. Turkey is NATO and NATO is already an ally of Israel. I see no war between turkey and Israel. no war between Egypt and Israel too.
