The fresh Israeli aggression targeted the building in the Al Mazzeh area of Damascus.

SANA news agency also reported that the attack inflicted heavy damage to the targeted building as well as the nearby buildings.

The reports added that the Syrian defense systems countered some of the missiles.

This attack led to the destruction of the entire building and the martyrdom and injury of the entire people inside it, the Syrian defense ministry said.

IRGC commander in Syria and Lebanon General Mohammad Reza Zahedi was martyred during the Israeli attack, according to the reports.

Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad contacted his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian following the incident and condemned the Israeli aggression.

3 Iranian Brigadier Generals (and multiple diplomats) were martyred in the Israeli attack against Iran's Embassy in Damascus

Brigadier General Mohammad-Reza Zahedi who was a top commander who previously commanded the IRGC Air Force and Ground forces

Brigadier General Mohammad-Haji Rahim, the Deputy Commander of the IRGC’s Quds Force’s Operations in Syria and Lebanon

Part of the emerging debate about how Iran should respond. Patarames does not believe Iran can legitimately strike Israeli territory while Amir believes striking an Israeli consulate in a neighbouring country is a cop out and diverts attention from Israel to Iran.

An attack on the Iranian embassy is actually an attack on Iranian soil and a declaration of war.

Hit the Israeli's in Gaza and their military buildings in the West Bank, they are occupied territories under international law and not part of Israel.

Golan Heights would also be a good option considering: slightly closer to Iran, Syrian-owned territory, creating a greater equivalence between the attacks.

But then what if Israel responds and escalates? Plans need to be made for every contingency.

Eilat is a good target given its only ABM systems are 6 Arrow-2 and 6 Arrow-3 missiles. But this will lead to war.

Israel is calculating that Iran will not respond, also they dont have the means to launch a sustained war and the US will not be in a rush to ferry large amounts of weapons to them to wage war against Iran especially when its an election year and the US is trying to simmer down tensions.

The Golan therefore makes a good target given its Syrian territory.

The big issue is that Zionia is self-destructing which hampers Iran quite a bit. However, NOT responding will create significant damage as well. Let's see whats the IRI conjures.

Two questions about the Golan: what good targets are in the Golan and what ABM systems does Israel have in the Golan?

They have military bases in the Golan, probably monitoring assets as well. They will also be on high alert now expecting an attack so I would think there would be ABM systems covering the area.

What I wonder is does Iran has missiles that can beat ABM systems, if the missiles are fired and most of them intercepted it will also remove deterrence in that sense as well. Need to make sure missiles are used which will reach its target and have a good chance to evade or beat ABM systems.

I've said it in numerous other tweets, but this is literally a textbook case of the permissibility of war under international law/norms. Actually if you presented this situation in a textbook you would probably get some smartass student mutter that it's unrealistic for a country to be so diplomatically hated and then go ahead and level a consulate. Not even through proxies or terrorists but by bombing it with their own f***ing air force.

Iran HAS to respond. This is a golden opportunity to re-establish Iranian deterrence. Anything less and we are no longer a regional power.
