The federal government has authorised the deployment of three companies of the Pakistan Army in Rawalpindi for six months for “sensitive security duties”, it emerged on Saturday.

The interior ministry’s order, a copy of which is available with Dawn, is dated August 21.

“Pursuant to the request made by the Punjab Home Department […] the federal government, in exercise of the powers conferred under Article 245 of the Constitution is pleased to authorise deployment of three companies of Pakistan Army for sensitive security duties in Rawalpindi to avoid any undesirable situation as well as to respond effectively in any unforeseen situation as per the requirement of the district administration for a period of six months with immediate effect,” the order said.

Article 245 of the Constitution pertains to the deployment of armed forces in aid of civil power.

They should be going door to door and check everything and everyone. They should do the same with Islamabad.

Very surprising- the security situation in Pindi and Punjab in general seems to be quite stable.

PTI announced long march on 27 September to Islamabad.
I was always told deploying the army is a last resort. Is a PTI rally really that dangerous or difficult an event ?

I mean how petrified is the Establishment from persecuting Imran Khan ??

If punjab police fire on protesters, blame will come on government. If army fire on them, there will be no blame on government. Not that they care about optics at all but still.

I’m struggling to figure out difference between punjab police and army

What is the reason ??
Law enforcement? National Guard has been deployed in Washington D.C. and crime is dramatically down.

Well the slippery slope keeps on getting more slippery.
Right now the present government is trying ice skate up a hill.
I am though quiet buffeted, distanced from events in the country, but not ready to see bloodshed.
Praying, no bullets.

What is the reason ??
PTI anticipated protest march.
Hope we don't see any more blood of people.
If army orders to press the trigger, not good for army and the country.

It’s either for Law and Order in case PTI long march turns into riots, or they are gearing up before the announcement of the division of provinces, or the least probable yet possible, imposition of Marshal Law.

Dictators love clinging to power.

The PTI has been completely defanged and after the (alleged) victory in the Sindoor War, FM AM is far more popular than IK. This can't be fear of PTI protests, I suspect it could be intelligence of terror attacks. Hopefully, there are no untoward incidents.

Regards
