Microsoft Announces Major Downsizing - 60,000 Affected

The vast majority of the tax in almost all countries is paid by a few individuals and companies. They will mostly be fine.

AI is going to be very disruptive for the middle class in this generation and will widen class differences, but I am quite confident it will ultimately vastly improve quality of human life, just like the other great economic revolutions. Human beings have a great instinct for survival and we will adapt again, though, like always, there will be winners and losers.

I-think a big reason why it is currently software jobs being replaced while "easier" sectors to crack, albeit huge market value is because these Al companies are trying to automate themselves, and ultimately get the models to automate the next gen model design, implementation etc.. Once they crack that all other sectors will fall so to speak. It’s going to be carnage mate!! It will replace people.. it reduces the need of having a team, shrink to one person. You are imagining we can adapt to this new invention and survive? I’m not to sue we will!!
AI has endless possibilities do jobs in all sectors what human beings do
Stop, ai will replace you.

bro that's where that plan of violent depopulation agendas come in, they have plan to reduce global population (its way over 7 billion right now) right down to 500million or something.....
That's why u see these wars heating up!
There's too many flashpoints out there with nukes in many places, enough to blow the planet ecosystem off. Time will tell, nothing certain

Corporations always love saving money for the bottomline so they do whatever they can to remove human jobs and use more software/tools to automate. Employees are seen as a cost/burden these days by the bean counters

This is not going to stop. it is going to get so so so much worse...My brother. D
It frightens me for my children and futures they got nothing forward to look to . No job security, no possibility of owning a house

I agree with what you said, When all fails they take you to war ..

We are looking at the situation from different perspectives. I agree with you that individuals will struggle to adapt and existing livelihoods will be adversely affected, just like they were by the Industrial and Computer revolutions. The number of jobs available will reduce. On a societal level, though, economic efficiency will vastly improve and once something like universal basic income can be figured out, people will have to spend far less time on daily drudgery and have far more leisure. The average quality of life of humankind as a whole will improve, though disparities may widen further and the transition will be a painful one for most.

Indians always end up getting hit the hardest when these companies make cuts.

AI whether deepseek or claude is ravaging the backend office roles and IT roles right now, If I was Modi I would be looking to quickly find a backup sector rather then putting all eggs in the IT service sector

while i don't disagree with what you said, but i just have a bad feeling about this, specially when so many are warning us.
Who can afford to spend when we have no jobs left? We will become "useless eaters" to the global elites and they will want to get rid of most of us (depopulate).
That means no jobs at all.....

the datacenters are already gobbling up the drinkable water which is our biggest necessity for sustaining life....if there are shortages we're doomed
the water in well designed data centers is recycled

Been horrid for everyone, Google, MS and Intel

Only company that came out unscathed is SpaceX but even their stock is taking a hit as general sentiment is very negative

Ai boom will go bust, and combined with the after effects of the energy crisis and inflation from the USA/Israel war on Iran, we are all in for a horrible time for a few years.

The Ai boom, once you look under the cover of how the debt is being "resold" to pension funds, and other financial instruments has all the hallmarks of 2008 subprime crisis it seems... Add on the circular debt on top for Ai, and it is a real pigs ear of a situation.

Stay away from shares for a while - it is all gonna go bye bye ...

Yeah, see what the OBR said about next decade in UK, literally flat and no increase in living standards. We had one lost decade and heading for another. A lot of it is structural and much of it rising costs globally combined with Brexit. Grim times ahead.

Unsure where else to park my money. Gilts are not a long term bet in the UK for me. I am happy buying AI/Nvidia during the dip then holding for 5 years till retirement, I dont see SpaceX as just AI, but also Starlink, Starship and potentially Telecoms. My bet is Musk combines with Tesla and makes it an entire ecosystem.

That way 5 years from now I will be sitting pretty and use my money to buy more properties to rent and live well or I will have f**ked up and eating watery daal with roti while next to the radiator I can only afford to switch on for 3 hours a day.

Time will tell

Sometimes cash is king until the dust settles. That is my play for a year or two until I see which way the wind blows.

You may better off investing in investment incomes products to protect against the rate of inflation for a year or two and then invest ( imho ). I really do feel like it is the calm before the storm. The storms are becoming more frequent it seems from 2008 credit crisis, to Covid, to the Iran war to the Ai boom/bust. Right now - it feels like any decision is the same as trying to catch a falling knife - so good luck.

Saw somewhere that Bill Gates is saying that the next 20 years will be rough in the world because of the Ai adaption and spread. I don't think Ai could be stopped. Even if the major tech companies in a few countries decide to impose limits on Ai, the genie is out of the bottle with freely available Ai tools and sharp techies to use and enhance those tools. Controlling Ai would be like controlling chemical and biological weapons: Lack of distrust between countries would make it impossible to control Ai.
You know what someone said 'If I don't steal it, someone else would!'

Yeah agree, never felt this much uncertainty in the market and for the future, its almost like living under Covid again.

That is a good tip ref protecting against inflation and then going out to buy, my issue is I really need to make my money grow quickly, I am appraiching end of my career so dont have the luxury of a 20-25 year timeline. Envy those that do

My guess is depending on backing the right horse of course, a £5k or £10k bet on a AI company by someone in their mid-20s now will enable them to retire in their 40s off the back of it.

Much like those luck people who bought Apple stock 20 years ago at $3
