The thinking in RSS is rather .... complex or let me be clear --- confused. Remember I said that before?

There are very important parts of Sangh who do not consider Sikhi, Buddhism or Jainism as separate faiths. Yes, its actually way more insidious.

Jains do not mind it as much.
Many Sikhs will HATE you if you call them Hindus. (I know because I lost someone very close to me that way)
Buddhism in India is actually kind of anti-Hinduism because a lot of Buddhist in India are former Dalits who wanted nothing to do with what made them Dalits in the first place. And really, it is kind of "Ambedkarism" too.

So, yeah, A Sikh or a Jain or a Buddhist can become a "Sanghi" "card carrying" "well accepted" RSS member... but then.... he will have to do something way worse than Ghar Vapsi...

Many will claim ex Congress loyalties. No way of checking that.

Many are tired of the Congress. Not enthused by Rahul. But do not like the BJP and the Sangh. As hardcore Hindus.

They vote in the state and local elections more honestly and genuinely than in the General.

In the General their vote goes to the non Italian non Muslim party. Period.

I contributed money to one of them once, and he gave me a book.
My wife nearly killed me.
The trouble is that they are Gaudiya Vaishnavs, followers of Madhvacharya, the founder of Dvaitavada, and she is as orthodox as they come, I won't add details to guard our privacy, but from the most orthodox of all TamBram categories. She didn't like their getting any money.

Joe, I always wanted to ask you this thing since now you have seen enough of this world and India. I know our Muslims friends will NEVER publically agree to it but what really is this religion thing. I believe it is a rebranding of politics in nice stories with a dash of nativism and egotistic nature that is the basis of many people.

Are we all essentially kids in adult bodies playing the same game we use to play in grade schools -- supporting our "superheros" and hating on those who have different ones? What has changed fundamentally from that state? Just the consequences? From not talking to not marrying and so on?

I know some folks will call me naive and immature, but lets face it ... fundamentally what makes scriptures (any religion) different from comics we used to read back then? And lets not forget there are religions like Scientology which literally talk about space aliens.

You should have someone saying,"Let the Sangh collectively drop dead", and if you want to give that wish your blessings, you say,"Tathastu", like that let it happen.

Oh well...

When no one has food, having a loaf of bread is a privilege. Having the first morsel offered is reverance.

In a society where basic respect is denied to almost anyone -- rememeber, even kids are called chavvani in a very messed up manner and what not, leaders being afforded that is reverence only. The days most folks in India are afforded that basic privilege, I will agree to you. Till then I doubt leaders should get any of that special privilege.

So yes, when name calling is the norm among our country man, I doubt civility should be extended to these folks.
