I get they are cops, and people are upset. But throwing one of the cliff is extreme..

When these police come to your house at 3am for just protesting, then smash your house up, abuse women in the house, beat up everyone regardless of age and gender, this is a light response by the awaam.

Faujeets need to understand this will not end well for Pakistan or Azad Kashmir

So what exactly is the issue in AJK? Why are people protesting?

I've heard that the people came out to protest against price extortion and other such issues, but police arrested their leader, and now we have this mess.

back in February there were massive protests and wheel Jam strikes in Kashmir, protests were led by Awami Action Committee (AAC) who had a 15 Point demand.

1. Freeze wheat subsidy at 2022 rates. Provide each person with 9kilograms of wheat a month.
2. Cancel Gilgit-Baltistan Finance Act 2023 and end all taxes imposed in Gilgit-Baltistan.
3. End the successive governments’ ‘artificially created power crisis’ in the region and increase electricity production.
4. Sign an agreement with the federal govt on the lines of the “National Finance Commission” to get financial resources for Gilgit-Baltistan.
5. Accept ownership of locals over all uncultivated and baren land through the Gilgit-Baltistan Reforms Bill.
6. Replace GB Assembly with a constituent assembly.
7. Provide free electricity to Gilgit-Baltistan from Diamer-Bhasha Dam and give 80% royalty to GB in lieu of Water User Rights and Net Hydel Profits.
8. Cancel all mining leases given to non-locals and award the leases to locals of Gilgit-Baltistan.
9. Declare Tourism and Transportation as Industries in GB.
10. Construct Shounter Tunnel to promote tourism in Gilgt-Baltistan.
11. Construct medical and engineering colleges in Gilgt-Baltistan.
12. Establish a university for women in GB.
13. Restore all ancient trade routes and roads.
14. Award PSPD contracts to local contractors in Gilgit-Baltistan.
15. Make NATCO profitable by giving it transportation contract for wheat supply.

Your government managed to get into an agreement and accepted the demands in return for stopping the protests. This lasted until April, When AAC decided they would start Massive protests on May 11th as the demands on wheat subsidies and electricity were not met.

Then local government brought in paramilitary from Pak mainland and arrested some of the activist leaders before the May 11 protests. That just made things worse. From videos, govt. wants to forcefully suppress the protests which is going in the expected direction.

They didn't donate the land for dams; they paid very well for their land.

Think about it what choice did they really have Gov had decided that was final. We demolished there entire old city Mirpur wipe out. Very sad.

What I have read up it was a V painful for these people of Mirpur once shifted to old Mirpur now again shifted to New city.Lot of people become mentally angry because of this shifting twice but there electricity bills are more than the people of Islamabad they just suffer... For Mangla up raising. Let us be bit more understanding here that is all I am saying.

some of demands are acceptable , some are not. Per unit 2 rupees and massive subsidiaries on food products are extremely impossible. Kashmiri should ask Nawaz to fix IPP contracts sign by Nawaz/PMLN, if they want 2 rupees per unit.

I think there's a populist motive behind this as well, but it sure as heck does not absolve the government of responsiblity.

I am still amazed why our policy makers do not realize that election fudging has far reaching consequences which affect your society, economy, governance, development, foreign policy, everything.

It is mostly to do with the electricity and subsidies issue, and about local rigging but not to do with Khan much.

And who do you think 'negotiated' a promise that electricity prices will be brought down and a deal struck? Not Imran but the shitty goons they put in charge.

Truth is the Pakistani economy cannot sustain the levels of subsidies it is providing everywhere, and you have subsidized some of these people for so long, removing them will only cause bigger problems. Its like being stuck between an Hammer and an Anvil.

80% - 90% of the problems in South Asia can be solved through economic development, everything else social, racial, religious problems are an after effect.(In most cases). Very easy for anyone to look at a starving person and say, "They are the reason you are poor."

Whose 'we' you can't do NOTHING. Make one more comment like that and I will throw you off the forum. You are part of the problem. People have genuine grievances and you want to ship them off. If it wasn't for the people of this region and their forefathers the Indian army would have taken apart Pakistan very quickly.

they do that once in a while... they get everything on subsidy and whenever any govt tries to shut it down thye atrts to do this.... some lathi charge is needed there. They are just accustomed to the bribes that they have been getting for 70 years!

They tried that approach and you've seen the result. The people control the streets. Punjabi police ran away and the roads are now blocked.
The army had to come and negotiate.
Not that I want this but the people haven't even brought out heavy weapons. If you think these louts can come into our regions with their BS lathis we will put them so far up their Sharif family supporting backsides they won't $hit straight for years....

They want cheaper electricity, the people have been told by their leadership that Pakistan (Punjab) uses their land for electricity generation and then sells it back to them at an expensive price. Its also true that alot of Punjabi mafia steals electricity and don't pay a penny so this adds to the fuel.
