Israel’s Genocide in Gaza | 2023- till present

Iran-backed Houthi rebels have been intensifying missile and drone attacks, targeting commercial vessels in the southern Red Sea, critical Bab el-Mandeb chokepoint, and the Gulf of Aden. The rebels have even threatened to extend their reach to the Mediterranean Sea. The recent sinking of the Tutor dry-bulk carrier by a kamikaze drone boat marks a significant escalation. The ongoing turmoil has sent containerized freight costs soaring, along with insurance costs back on the rise.

Bloomberg spoke with two individuals familiar with the maritime insurance market. They said the price of covering a commercial vessel for transit has jumped from .3% to .4% of the ship's total value to .6%. In other words, a vessel worth $50 million must pay upwards of $300k of insurance for one sail.

If we think about it. Hamas made a long term move. Hamas lacks anywhere near the power to make a power move. It does not posses the capability. Gaza is very weak and isolated. And always has been. Hamas sought to trigger a series of events. With the military counterstrike of Toofan Al Aqsa. And unify all fronts towards a greater confrontation with Israel. Hamas sought to change the status quo. It did not seek to overrun Israel or liberate Palestine. It can't do that and knows that. It can only shift the status quo and help guide the region and it's people towards a confrontation with Israel.

It is a strategic move and Hamas essentially sacrificed itself for a greater good. We don't know how this year and the next will end. Or what will happen. It is a risk Hamas took to achieve freedom for the people of the region.

Israel, on other hand, tries to make short term moves of killing/butchering/torturing civilians. To be assertive in that way. It has no long term vision or strategy as it rejects peace. It's attempt at crafting one was the 'deal of century' to try to coerce Arab world and Egypt into carving out a state for Palestinians in Sinai. And forcefully 'migrating' them out of Palestine. Egypt and Arab world refused this and thus Israel embarked on a path of radicalization and extremism.

Thoughtful post and well worth reading and pondering.

Yes, Hamas/Gazans are willing to sacrifice themselves for 'the greater good' and they wouldn't be the first resistance movement in history but they are probably the best as far as I can see, considering the odds against them: On top of their geography, Not only Israel's military but also that of the United States and the powerful, rich American allies, which shamefully even include Jordan!!

I think the Gazans have outdone the Vietcong against the Americans, the Mujahedeen vs the Soviets, the Afghan Taliban against the Americans [interesting: In all these wars, Americans are the prime actors!!??].

I also think the Gazans were kind of 'too successful' on October 7. And thus this conflict is now at an extremely dangerous stage because it was unplanned/unanticipated in this scale. Israel needs a 'victory' but that victory can't come unless Gaza is totally subjugated--which would mean even if Rafah Crossing is totally cut off, there will be long term guerilla war inside Gaza and attacks from Hezbollah.

I don't see an Israeli victory as long as rockets could be launched from Gaza and from Lebanon even if Rafah Crossing is totally blocked!

Going forward: As of now, Americans still don't want a regional war. That was obvious to me many months ago and I am proud to say that I was correct compared with even seasoned diplomats like Alistair Crooke, who said months ago Americans wanted a war against Hezbollah. But Israelis are now willing to roll the dice unless Netanyahu is toppled very soon.

I do not believe that the US intervenes directly in the conflict with bombers, but with airborne support and support, in addition to providing air defense missiles and even reinforcing by deploying air defense missile batteries.

The US knows that if Israel starts to lose to Hezbollah, Israel launches the atomic bomb in southern Lebanon to wipe out everything and everyone, Israel would do this even though it knew it would be condemned worldwide and not even the US would have arguments to defend at the UN.
They have been supplying special forces under the guise as dual Israeli citizens.

Charges against many of the Columbia university protesters (specifically the Hind Hall Students) have been dropped.

The head of Lebanon’s Hezbollah terror group Hassan Nasrallah said Wednesday that nowhere in Israel would be safe if a full-fledged war breaks out between the two foes, while also threatening Cyprus and other parts of the Mediterranean.
Speaking at a ceremony commemorating slain Hezbollah senior commander Taleb Abdullah, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon last week alongside three other operatives, Nasrallah commented on the escalating conflict with the Jewish state and said the Shiite terror group does not want “total war” but is only acting in support of Hamas.
Hezbollah has been attacking northern Israel since October 8, leading to Israeli reprisals and an escalating conflict Israel has increasingly warned could spark open war.

Were Israel to launch a large-scale offensive against the Lebanese terror group, it must prepare for attacks from the ground, the air and the sea, and the “situation in the Mediterranean will change completely,” Nasrallah vowed.
“No place” in Israel would be spared from the group’s weapons in case of a full-blown war, Nasrallah warned, saying Hezbollah will fight with “no rules” and “no ceilings” and adding: “The enemy knows well that we have prepared ourselves for the worst… and that no place… will be spared from our rockets.”

Israel “knows that what also awaits it in the Mediterranean is very big,” Nasrallah added, without elaborating, possibly insinuating the group could attack its offshore gas rigs.

Nasrallah also threatened Cyprus for the first time, saying it had been allowing Israel to use its airports and bases for military exercises and that Hezbollah could consider it “a part of the war” and strike it were it to allow the IDF to use logistical infrastructure in the country to attack Lebanon.
“Opening Cypriot airports and bases to the Israeli enemy to target Lebanon would mean that the Cypriot government is part of the war, and the resistance will deal with it as part of the war,” he said.

Cyprus is not known to offer any land or base facilities to the Israeli military, but has in the past allowed Israel to use its airspace to occasionally conduct air drills, though never during conflict.
There are two British bases in Cyprus, which was a colony until 1960. They have been used for operations in Syria and more recently, Yemen, and the Cypriot government has no say in the matter. According to Hebrew media reports, British Royal Air Force fighter jets and refueling aircraft took off from bases in Cyprus to help thwart a massive drone and missile attack launched by Iran against Israel in mid-April.
Following Nasrallah’s speech, Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides said his country “is in no way involved” in any military operations in the region or elsewhere, adding that that the terror leader’s remarks “don’t in any way reflect what’s being attempted, which is to present a picture that Cyprus is involved in military operations.”
Christodoulides said Cyprus was “part of the solution, not part of the problem” and was recognized throughout the Arab world and internationally through such initiatives, such as the Cyprus-Gaza maritime corridor delivering humanitarian aid by ship to the Strip.
He also said there were avenues of communication with both Lebanon and Iran “through diplomatic means.”

Flaunting technological advances

Following Hezbollah’s publication on Tuesday of footage allegedly filmed from one of its reconnaissance drones flying over northern Israel, Nasrallah claimed that the terror group has hours of such footage and of information about sensitive military targets inside Israel, including some that are located far from the northern border.

Among such targets are military bases and headquarters located deep inside Israeli territory, some of which have been camouflaged but were uncovered by Hezbollah’s drones, Nasrallah claimed.
On Wednesday, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi downplayed the publication of the drone footage, saying the IDF is “preparing and building solutions to deal with such capabilities,” and possesses “infinitely more powerful capabilities” that Hezbollah is not aware of.
In his speech, Nasrallah claimed that Israeli military leaders have known since October 8 that some of the sensitive targets inside Israeli territory would be targeted.
Among such targets, Nasrallah mentioned the Mount Meron air traffic control base, which in his words represented an “aspirational target” in the 2006 Second Lebanon War, and today is fully within reach of Hezbollah’s projectiles.

He further alleged that the terror group has developed and keeps manufacturing new missiles and drones, and that its human and military resources are greater than they have ever been.
Due to Hezbollah’s continuous attacks, the IDF had been forced to divert resources from Gaza, Nasrallah said, noting that Israel has suffered huge economic losses as a result of the evacuation of towns on the northern border and the halt of agricultural and industrial activities in the area.
Despite the military and economic damage, Israeli leaders are not willing to admit the magnitude of the damage, Nasrallah added, in order not to put pressure on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whose priority remains the war against Hamas in Gaza.
The terror leader also mocked Israel for claiming to possess the strongest army in the region, noting that the IDF has not yet been able to completely dismantle Hamas forces in Rafah despite a ground operation that has lasted several weeks.

“We will continue to support Gaza and we are ready for anything. We are not afraid. Our demand is clear: A complete and permanent ceasefire in Gaza,” Nasrallah said, arguing that the ceasefire agreement recently presented by US President Joe Biden to Hamas does not stipulate that the halt in fighting should be permanent.
“However, every day, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu comes out and says that a ceasefire is impossible,” Nasrallah claimed. Taking a swipe at Netanyahu’s far-right coalition partners Itamar Ben Gvir and Betzalel Smotrich, he predicted that they will “drag the enemy into the abyss.”
After his speech, he addresses the families of fallen Hezbollah operatives and Lebanese citizens displaced from the country’s south, saying that the terror group has been conducting the “largest battle since 1948” against Israel.

I'm not sure if you know about international trade contracts..
What is there to understand, are they God's given laws to obey while the people with whom you making bussiness are killing your own people, is that how low you fell with apologetics of arab regimes?

If the Jews leave back to Europe, then which Jews will maintain the Jewish state that is supposed to exist as part of the 2-state solution? Depopulation of Jews in Palestine essentially violates the legal agreement of a Jewish state next to an Arab one, in Palestine. Jews can stay in Israel, they just need to accept and acknowledge full Palestinian rights.

I don't think that's possible anymore, not after this evil genocide, the Jews need to clear out now

Excellent post. One of the Best interpretation I've read on this forum. But I disagree about Israel being without direction. I would argue Israel wanted this genocide and war against Palestine.

Israel's plan was to clear the path through terror and extermination. It was to become the dominant force in the middle east with subservient partners that will bow down to it's supreme powers (primarily the Gulf Arabs, Egypt etc.,).... I'm exchange the Arabs regimes get to keep their hold on power and are guaranteed a share in Jewish wealth. No Arab springs and pesky Islam (Muslim brotherhood etc.)

Hamas was supposed to die easily and the Palestinians were supposed to vacate the lands and pave the way for the start of Israeli dominance in the region. But the Palestinians are proving to be pesky buggers that just don't quit.

Now the power hunger corrupt Arab regimes are looking over their shoulders as they are exposed and their own population are getting restless. They will wait on the sidelines and hope Israel wins for their own sake.

What happens from now and the next 6 months will change the face of this planet. It's about to get a whole lot worse. The West are exposed for their hypocrisy and they are fully invested is supporting their abomination called Israel.

The West have simultaneously and foolishly opened a front against Russia and less directly China. This will blow back on the arrogant West as the Russians will fully back other forces such a the Houtis and Iran just to get back at the West.

The Russian war against the West will only fan the flames in the Middle East and all the Israeli, West, and GCC/Egypt/Jordanian plans will fall apart.
