India has no business in the Maldives. What's all the fuss about? They want us as tourists, they don't want us there with guns. So fine, so how does that suddenly make them anti-India? Why do we have to go around getting angry with everyone except China?

Because flight and things are not cheap and also far so days adds up. At that price point there are many destinations for western tourists.

I am saying that creating hostility with Maldives would hurt us as well. They earn forex through our tourists but we earn part of the forex back by our employees.

A long-term sustained trade embargo by India would cause skyrocketing inflation in Male. Maldives is extremely isolated. This is almost like a nuclear weapon. it should be the last resort. Till then the govt needs to deal tactfully.

If Lakshadweep gets developed it can also earn forex. But agreed no need to be like China and use stick, this small shock was good enough.

Another thing should be very clear to all nations in our periferia you cannot play China against India. Have business relations with China but if it impacts Indian security interest all bets are off.

Anyway world is moving towards two groups so eventually all will have to pick sides.

Take the case of Bhutan. It is very pro-India and India takes care of everything for that country. Is not China still trying to improve diplomatic relations with it? In diplomacy, we can't brood over other countries' preferences.

Actually they're quite competitive now with so many carriers going there. The price point is a mute point as it's high end full stop, so other options don't matter as the people going there already want to. These western tourists are wealthy full stop.
