Bangladesh Socio-Political Crisis 2024 and onwards

@Afif , @Raj-Hindustani @Joe Shearer @Nilgiri

Possible reasons for India to be nervous if the US is indeed provided a foothold against China in BD?

Encroachment?
Balance altering?
Frenemy surveillance?
Heard from an unconfirmed source, China has played a role by threatening to make the BD-Burma bordering areas "live". It was a threat to the pro-Hasina (aka Bharat) faction of the BD Army. And, Noble laurate Prof Younus has agreed to be the head of the caretaker govt in BD. Needless to say, Prof Younus is damn close to the Western Deep Sate, and is hated by Hasina...

Hasina isn't getting asylum in any Western or ME countries so far. Her last hope is Belorussia, where her henchmen, like previous Army Chief, have billions of $s of investments. It should show where the water is flowing to. Bharat, Insha'Allah, will lose big time this time. The Muslims in BD hate Bharat 10x more than that by those in Pakistan for they have been 10x more in the receiving end of the Bharati aggression by all means....

The Muslims in BD are scaling this victory higher to that they achieved in 1971! For the former is done exclusively by the BD folks themselves, and the latter with the help of Bharat. And, they've been paying the Keffara for that Bharat's help with nefarious intentions ever since....

This video's caption: Fi Naari Jahannama, Hasina. No Muslim in BD has ever said it to any Pak military member....

Weren't you supposed to be Turkish or something? Now you are a Bangladeshi?

The demand looks genuine. But the way they are demanding is wrong. Use Gandhi's way. Hunger strike or sit peacefully somewhere in huge number and attract media.
But your Mataji doesn't understand this language.

The real reason: The Hasina govt is unable to maximize the limited resources to meet the growing material and cultural needs of the people of Bangladesh.

Since the start of the rate hike cycle in March 2022, the Federal Reserve has raised interest rates more than a dozen times in a row. As a result of the strong dollar, many countries have seen their currencies depreciate rapidly, their foreign exchange dry up, their debt soar and their economies hit hard. In particular, South Asian countries, including Bangladesh, have been the most severely affected.

Bangladesh is a small country with a large population and an excessively high population growth rate, and Bangladeshis suffer from low employment all year round. And the dollar interest rate hike cycle has amplified the pain of Bangladeshis even more. The inability of the Hasina government to meet the demands of the Bengali people for jobs and incomes has led to riots.
Neither China nor India are going to be happy with the current situation. If the Americans get a base in BD, it is to the detriment of both countries.

The last thing either country wants, is American interests getting forwarded. You will remember during the last election, the Americans actively wanted the opposition to come to power.

There is no money in America right now. They can't do anything.

And there is a Chinese naval fleet stationed at Kyaukphyu harbor in Burma, which China has leased for 99 years.

Break it down by exports/imports.

all the surpluses are with USA/EU. all the deficits are with China. No brownie points for guessing what will happen in a zero sum game.

It is not like anything Bangladesh produces that cannot be obtained from another low income country

Don't know what you are getting at. That the US/EU do some special favour rather than pricepoint based transaction w.r.t BD or any other country on this tier of goods and services and remittances involved?

That BD is likewise doing a huge special favour buying what it buys from PRC rather than the pricepoints PRC have achieved here for that spread of (mostly) goods?

If you dont really get how WTO and GATT before it works for bulk of mainstream goods and services, you best read up on that first.

All I said is there is no huge current account deficit or surplus effect impacting on capital account of BD.

It is obviously a capital deficit country at large like the region, so it has certain levers at its discretion employed commensurate to again its largely transactional driven needs here (investment, loans, bonds and so on).

Capital is upstream to production, hence there is a higher presence of strategic/geopolitical decision making regarding elements of the capital account compared to the current account which is a downstream effect from earlier capital account components, as they pertain to whatever BD is unable to do totally internally to begin with anyway.

When we are talking about very strategic or capital cost intensive goods, you start to see strategy come in to the current account as well. BD has not unlocked that tier....compared to what we see going on between say West and China in that current account realm of tariffs and legislation/clauses used in the WTO for these.

Well a huge setback for India. Lost a pro India government and likely the new one will be representing China and US. Means its good for Pakistan as well.
She ran away to India to save her life shows whose puppet she was.

There is one thing that one must learn from Arab Spring. All of the resulting countries either became failed state or reverted back to being a dictatorship. I am hearing some clashes between students and army in Bangladesh so it may end up moving in that direction.

As far as Hasina goes, this is not the first time. It is in fact repeat of 75. Modi government should dust off the playbooks from that time to figure out what needs to be done.

It does not matter, if the new government decides to give access to an air base in BD for the Americans. It exposes Indian NE and eastern regions to American surveillance and the Chinese Tibetan areas. Not to mention, they will increase meddling in Burma.

This is correct.

1. There is no solid information that the US wanted a base to start with, we only had rumors. As for money, the US always has money for foreign military bases, they don't have the political will and/or focus on this matter at this time. The US, right before the election is too busy and too messy to focus on such a non essential matter. They have far bigger fish to fry, such as Gaza and Ukraine issue, they are fumbling and limping as we speak.

2. The US was also definitely NOT behind removal of Hasina.

3. I can't see how any base in BD improves USs' military strategic situation against Chine to start with.

4. Finally, even if there is a US base in BD (which I don't want), it won't present as a challenge to China.
