I hardly follow Bangladesh much. My few comments about that country were something like 'Look at Bangladesh marching ahead due to the stability under Hasina. She has made peace with India and is focusing on progress'. I even thought Pakistan should replicate that model-- have stability for 10-15 years to educate people and build infra and THEN talk about the grand ideas of 'democracy' etc.
And I have not necessarily changed those ideas! As @UKBengali said in a post many pages ago [I saw his post and have basically been skimming this thread--not enough time], the stability and the infrastructure under Hasina can be the bedrock on which Bangladeshi people can build upon if they move on wisely. So, in that sense, I look positively at Hasina. Pakistan too has examples of when relative stability under the 3 military regimes, especially under Ayub Khan, when Pakistan built enough to move forward.
Chaos is the worst enemy for a country!! Bangladesh wasted a lot of time due to the infighting between Hasina and Khalida and Hasina's rule made up for some of the lost time. Similar chaos happened in Pakistan in the lost decade between 1989-1999 due to Benazir-Nawaz infighting. Pakistan went backward from that decade onward!

I guess my opinion is of a minority here but it is what it is.

Chile, South Korea and Taiwan are excellent examples of countries that progressed with right wing authoritarian regimes and they eased up when there was some economic growth. Those countries have fraction of Bangladesh and Pakistan's populations

It seems that many people don't realize that the best relationship with China among the various forces in Bangladesh is with the Bangladeshi military. Bengali military officials have long and frequent visits to China, and most of the weapons of the Bengali army come from China.

And if the U.S. recklessly enters Burma through Bangladesh, it will inevitably face a war quagmire even more horrific than Afghanistan. Many people simply don't understand China's influence over northern Burma. Even the Christian Burmese KIA, which the U.S. government wants to support, depends on the Chinese Jingpo people to provide material from Ruili, China. One hint from the Chinese government and the KIA would turn their guns on American soldiers.

We simply don't believe that the US is stupid enough to build a military base in Bangladesh. Unless the U.S. wants to keep spending trillions of dollars on the military in Burma. Indians should stop continuing the rumors.

No one with sane mind admit such thing. Hassina was incredibly bad, but Pak military establishment is still by a large margin the worse thing that happen to people of this country since 1947. Hassina killed 1000 people and then fled. Pak army launched a brutal war on us that killed least 300k before they were put down by allied force.
