If you think about it, this is a much easier option for PAF. Not only is Iran isolated and has no real ally, but no country would condemn Pakistani retaliation on Iran.

Strategically speaking do you want all your neighbours to be enemies, Pak has had a challenging relationship with Iran but its been mostly peaceful. This will go into thinking in terms of next moves.

I am still not convinced this is a unilateral action, maybe its because of my mistrust of the pakistani political leaders we have seen so many times in the past them being involved in actions but conducting plausible deniability.

If its unilateral Pak should demand an apology, compensation and even reduce diplomatic staff.

Do not forget Turkey accidently shot down a Russian jet killing its pilot. I know that was accidental but it didn't mean military reaction.
