Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) Rallies / Protests

No turning back without Imran Khan

As the PTI convoy reached the Punjab boundary, the police started shelling on them at the Attock Bridge, Chach interchange and Ghazi Barotha canal areas. Later, Gandapur directed the convoy to stop at Ghazi Maqam for a while, urging the workers to get ready, because there was a "battle ahead".

Meanwhile, it was reported that Imran Khan's wife, Bushra Bibi, also addressed the workers and asked them to quickly move ahead in their vehicles instead of walking along the march, stressing they would have to move fast and shouldn't come back without bringing Imran Khan back.

While the K-P saw the largest mobilisation of the participants, the rallies also set out from various parts of Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan. In Punjab, opposition supporters marched from cities, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Mianwali, Kasur, Okara, and Vehari, among others.

Despite heavy police and Rangers' deployment, many PTI workers managed to breach barricades and evade restrictions, in an attempt to reach the capital.

Throughout the day, the PTI workers and LEA officials kept clashing in different parts of Punjab.

A media report suggested that several PTI leaders, including PTI's chief whip in the National Assembly Amir Dogar and Zain Qureshi were arrested from Multan. Reports attributed to the Punjab police spokesperson said that around 600 people had been arrested for violating Section 144 in Punjab.

Meanwhile, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi promised on Sunday to restrict protestors outside Islamabad. Naqvi took an aerial view of Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Attock to review security arrangements in the three cities. He expressed satisfaction with the arrangements.

You need at least 500 proverbial “Bushra Zaidi” incidents recorded on Tik Tok, whatsapp, twitter, instagram and even weibo to spur any change from this effort.

Otherwise Imran Khan is going to get his shalwar pressed for nothing.

All the best brothers. I hope they are also driving heavy equipment e.g. diggers and excavators.

For corrupt, illegal and unpopular government, Police is the first and last line of defense. Break that defense and everything will collapse like house of glass.

Let's see what they do once they reach D-Chowk, they're only a few km away. If they sit around and do jack shit and run away, then yes- pointless. So far there has been a mass movement here, if they hold it down then there is potential for others to join.

If they get fired upon then that can go two ways; beneficial or the end of the movement for now. It could be beneficial where people chimp out and eat the bullets and keep pushing... now that would leave a big big scar. Or we just slip into a China tier governance however, nobody gets benefits and they sit around forever oppressed and then people like @Pakistan Space Agency can clap his hands enjoying the oppression of the poor whilst simultaneously worshipping maryam nawaz.

  • "Govt’s resolve to defend capital at any cost should be manifested."
  • If sit-in is staged, it will be huge setback for country: minister.
ISLAMABAD: Amid reports of negotiations between the government and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has asserted that the talks have ended "inconclusively" as former first lady Bushra Bibi, who is leading the caravan, "can smell blood and is in no mood to compromise".

"She [Bushra] knows she is close to D-Chowk and has become a leader [...] she will press the advantage she has," the PML-N leader said while speaking on Geo News programme 'Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath'.

He noted that the government had no choice "to use force" against the protesters who were trying to enter Islamabad. "They [PTI] believe they have an advantage and will keep marching on [Islamabad]," he added.

Asif was of the view that the government’s "clear cut" resolve to defend the capital at any cost should be manifested and especially when a foreign dignitary, Belarus President, is visiting the country.

In response to a question, the defence minister said that the former first lady has achieved a "lifetime opportunity" to become a leader and "she will press this advantage".

When asked about the negotiations, he reiterated that the lady, Bushra Bibi, was in "no mood" to compromise" and "power is in her hand and she can feel it".

"Imran knows his wife is controlling the situation," he said, reiterating that the government should demonstrate its resolve as the situation is deteriorating and if they reached D-Chowk and staged a sit-in "it will be a huge setback for the country".

Earlier, sources told Geo News that the first round of talks between the government and the former ruling party ended inconclusively.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held negotiations with PTI leaders Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif on behalf of the federal government.

They said PTI stood firm on its demand to ensure the immediate release of the PTI founder, who has been behind bars since August last year.

The PTI leaders, insiders said, also rejected the government's offer to hold a sit-in at the Parade Ground or Peshawar Mor in the federal capital.

The PTI supporters have entered the federal capital on the call of their jailed party founder to gather at D-Chowk in the capital and stay there until their demands are met. The release of jailed ex-premier among other issues is what the party seeks.

Authorities have enforced a security lockdown for the last two days to block the protesters, whom jailed PTI founder Imran Khan has called on to march on parliament for a sit-in demonstration to demand his release, while highways into the city have been barricaded.

The government has used shipping containers to block major roads and streets in Islamabad, most of them patrolled by large contingents of police and paramilitary personnel in riot gear.

The Imran Khan-founded party, in recent months, has marched on the federal capital on multiple occasions which has seen its workers clashing with the law enforcement agencies (LEAs).

The police have been spanked quite a bit so far, vehicles and equipment stolen and even people in custody forcefully released. I've even seen clips of them getting slapped around with sticks. Looking good so far, hopefully they grow a conscious and lay down their danday.

They will when they see the balance of power shifting in the opposite direction.
