That muslims from western countries were dreaming of new sultanates and wars more than muslims who lived in muslim countries. Erdogan just admitted he backed the rebels against the internationally recognised government of Syria and Turkey has been working for years on strengthening relations between Turkic countries.

If Assad falls, then expect a civil war to soon break out again.

The Turkish backed rebels and Kurds may have a "pause" for a while but it will soon blow up again as they will be at each other's throats.

What we will not have is any unified Syrian state anymore.
