The Seljuks and Nureddin Zengi were Turkish. Saladin was Kurdish under Nureddin Zengi but they were brothers in faith.

Saladin lead a joint Muslim people into battle Kurds, Turks, Arabs and Turkic that had same goal in taking Jerusalem.

Same case you see Kurds fought for the Ottomans in many battles due to same interest.
