Syrian Civil War and The future of Syria after liberation

Exactly that.

I remember, back in 2021-2022,people here including sometimes @Ali_Baba and @UKBengali not believe me when I talked about Erdogan's threats and expansionism towards my country. I'm mentioning it because it was the period it reached a height. Because from 2020 and until early 2023,the Turks had escalated the situation really badly.

Back then, when I presented their claims and talked about Erdogan's propaganda, they didn't believe me. When I mentioned Erdogan,Akar and Cavusoglu's demands and talked about how ridiculous they were, many people here were skeptical. Iranians knew,Egyptians knew, some Pakistanis too understood. But most were like "he's Greek,he's not Muslim,he's exaggerating. White people are like that, they are imperialists, colonialists, Turkey must be the victim".

The narration later changed to include Aleppo,Mosul,Kirkuk,Gaza,Al Quds.

Of course,Gaza and Al Quds were off-limits.

But Syria wasn't. The backstabbing of Syria, the destruction of this secular government that was barely trying to survive and rebuild,is disgusting. A lot of people here don't have the slightest idea of what that means. Turkey just destabilized the region AGAIN.
Radicals are in control of an ENTIRE vast country. A country that fully protected the right of religions and PROTECTED THE LEGACY and monuments of thousands of years of civilization. A faction that has stated before they want to create an "islamic emirate" in Syria,is in control. Netanyahu has EVEN MORE excuses to not let Syria prosper again. The Israelis already started annexing parts of Syria. For the Iranians, their corridor to Lebanon has been destroyed and a salafi government placed.

And let all those who cheered for Erdogan, see what just happened. All those who used to say "Turkey is a peaceful country, they don't want anything from you,it's Greece that causes problems and wants too much". Wake up and see what's going on.

The entire region is in turmoil because of Erdogan's treachery. Right when the Israelis declared a ceasefire with the Lebanese. Who talks about Gaza now? Forgotten already. It's all about Syria now.
turkey has crazy imperialist goals

but let them face the burden and cost of keeping syria stable

iran wasted $50 billion (and lots of lives) trying and eventually realised it's not worth it

I predict turkey will reach the same conclusion

Israel carries out over 100 air strikes in Syria -

BBC

Israel has carried out more than 100 air strikes in Syria today, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based human rights organisation.

The organisation says Israel has targeted military sites in Damascus, Daraa, Latakia and Hama - including research centres, weapons, warehouses and airports.

The organisation reported that "raids were launched on scientific research in Barzeh".

We don't know the specific research centre that was hit in Barzeh. But in 2017, the BBC saw a document linking a branch of the Scientific Studies and Research Centre (SSRC) in Barzeh to the production of chemical weapons.

Israeli strikes in Syria have killed 416 soldiers in 2024, the organisation adds.

Israel says it is acting to stop weapons falling into the hands of extremists.

Lebanon warns against 'illegal crossings' from Syria

BBC

There's a lot of uncertainty about how the future of Syria will play out after its president, Bashar al-Assad, was ousted, including questions around migration.

We've been hearing about hundreds of displaced Syrians returning back to the country, as well as reports that some Syrians are attempting to leave via the Masnaa border and enter Lebanon - which you can see in the photos below.

Earlier, Lebanon's Interior Minister Judge Bassam Mawlawi warned authorities to "take immediate measures to prevent illegal crossings by Syrians", according to Lebanese state media.

Like Iran and Lebanon Hezbollah, I guess Syrian army must have underground facilities too, with military hardware.

One Syrian fighter jet in the hands of a suicide jihadist could be a lot more dangerous for Israel than anything in the Assad regime.

Israel regime was so stupid facilitating Assad fall, they will regret.
The best for Israel interests was a endless fighting between Assad and Rebels, without winner.
Israel can reach underground facilities

this is one of the largest single day bombing campaigns of Isreal's history, it's not a small attack

they want to exploit the fall of Assad to neutralise all of Syria's military capabilities

Iran can walk away as they are not a neighbouring country that has to deal with the fallout. Turkey doesnot have that option as it is a neighbouring country they have destablished and destroyed.

This will cost Turkey massively.

There are a lot of lessons to be learnt here. I hope Russia , China and Axis ofResistance are taking notes.

Time might heal, but the scars remain. Just ask the Libyans, Tunisians, and others. In the end, Sudan got cut down due to bad blood.

The evil man got removed, but you brought an ever greater evil into your house.

But the gist of my post was that you time your actions appropriately.
Look at history, it’s not the first time this kind of re-balancing is happening. But freezing time is simply not possible.

Otherwise, we should say, things were very settled in colonial times, no one should have yearned for freedom.

When Israel is done, hundreds of billions of dollars of military infrastructure, factilities, defence institutions, munitions stockpiles, military requipment, air defences sytems, fast jets will all have been destroyed.

Those individuals who are saying, "that stuff didn't work anyway" dont understand or appreciate that is 3-4 decades of equipment that is getting blown up right now.

Syria can never rebuild its military that Israel is now blasting. No amount of "donations" or procurements can ever fill equipment void that Israel is now creating. This is a fundamental strategic permanent degradation of Syria's infrastrcture.

Biden highlighted Jordan's key role in "deescalating tensions" in region during call with king

From CNN's Nikki Carvajal

US President Joe Biden spoke Monday with Jordan’s King Abdullah II emphasizing the country’s key role in “maintaining stability and de-escalating tensions” in the Middle East following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria.

“The President emphasized his full support for a Syrian-led transition process under the auspices of the United Nations as outlined in UN Security Council Resolution 2254,” the White House said in a readout of the call.

That resolution, passed in 2015, endorses a roadmap for a peace process in Syria through UN-facilitated talks between the Syrian government and opposition members.

Biden, “also discussed the situation in eastern Syria to include the U.S. commitment the D-ISIS mission, including the strikes conducted last night against a concentration of ISIS fighters and leaders,” the White House said. “The President emphasized the support of the United States for the stability of Jordan and Jordan’s central role in maintaining stability and de-escalating tensions throughout the Middle East region.”

The two leaders additionally talked about the “urgent need to conclude the ceasefire and hostage release agreement together with a surge in humanitarian assistance for the people of Gaza” and agreed to remain in “regular contact directly and through their teams.”

The United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) told Israel that its presence in the Syrian buffer zone would violate the 1974 Agreement on Disengagement with Syria, the UN Secretary General’s spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said Monday.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday said that he had ordered the military to “take control” of the buffer zone, which separates the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights from the rest of Syria.

The UN has confirmed that Israeli troops entered the buffer zone and were moving within that area, where they remain in at least three locations, according to Dujarric.

“There should be no military forces or activities in the area of separation,” he said.

Dujarric also said UNDOF personnel, who are tasked with maintaining a ceasefire between Israel and Syria and supervising the areas of separation and limitation, remain at their positions and are carrying out their mandated activities.

“Currently, the situation in the UNDOF area of operations is relatively calm,” he said.

Golan Heights

The territory was seized by Israel from Syria in 1967 during the Six-Day War and annexed in 1981. It's considered occupied territory under international law and UN Security Council resolutions.

US has "taken steps to secure our embassy" building in Syria, State Department says

From CNN's Jennifer Hansler

The United States has “taken steps to secure our embassy” facility in Syria following the collapse of the Assad government, State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said Monday.

The US suspended operations at its embassy in Damascus in February 2012 and did not have diplomatic relations with the Assad government. Czech Republic had served as the US protecting power in Syria, but Miller noted that it had left the embassy in the Syrian capital.

“We have taken steps to secure our embassy, and we believe that our embassy, which, of course, we’re not staffing at the time, but that our embassy is still secure,” Miller said at a briefing.

Miller said there were no US personnel there, but the US is “at times able to engage with local parties to maintain the security of our embassy, make sure that is not breached, and we have taken those steps.”
