yeah we wont get d's, theyre reserved for top level allies, the step down was 120c7's, but that seems unlikely too, however, they may allow turkish missiles as its not directly American support

That was something I was wondering as well. PAF already has access to other BVR missiles in its inventory, I don't really see the reason as to why they'd hold back on those missiles

Realistically, if say we even get Ds (they are already working on a replacment to these I think), this project may take 4-5 years to complete. One can only assume by then China will have something better then the PL-15 that we may well be able to integrate with anyone of our Chinese AESA fighters ( BIII, J-10, J-35).

Simply that with such a fast pace of tech development and considering the 2 new 6th gen planes they just showed the world, it can be safe to assume the Chinese must be working on new gen air to air missiles?

As you rightfully point out, we have the entire system in place for the F-16, we know it very well, we have a massive pool of pilots. It makes sense for us to upgrade if the price is right, but these will no longer be PAF's cutting edge. Very much akin to what the upgraded Mirage 3s were to our old F-16 As. Very useful, and certainly in the context of the fact our enemy is flying 30 year old SU-30s, very capable, but just no longer our very frontline

It may be the reason the US would allow the upgrades....

The update I wrote about back in 2016 was done around that time. Currently, I'm not aware of any other upgrade in the works, but there's always a possibility. Just can't verify reports atm.

As originally planned, the ROCAF expected to receive a total of 144 F-16Vs, produced via conversion of its existing F-16A/B jets, but this figure has been reduced to 141

Yea that ain't happening. But those Iraqi F-16s, getting those is possible, and later on upgrading our fleet with block V upgrades
