Chinese elite send their kids to oxbridge and Ivy League.

Chinese will never use alphabets in place of Chinese characters, otherwise Chinese language will lose its identity, culture and history. Chinese will not change their language just for the sake to be "easier" for foreigners to learn.

Esperanto is easy to learn for English speakers but not easy to learn for Chinese speakers. It was developed by English speakers, wasn't it?

Anyway a constructed language can be always easier to learn than a natural language.

Natural languages are plenty of exception due to historic reasons, like English irregular verbs.

And a constructed language can be created with a set of few general rules.

Cantonese is not a language, it's just a provincial dialect, every province in China has some dialects. Mandarin is a Beijing based dialect or accent.
Both Taiwan and Singapore also speak Mandarin, cause Beijing has served as the capital city for China for hundreds of years so far.

Objectively English will remain the most common bridge language of the world. Far more countries speak and are familiar with English than Mandarin.

I dont know what you mean by rusty. The Chinese language is modenized now, it is used to record everday conversation and its one of the richest languages in the world. But its not based on just phonetic sounds as English and many other languages just spelling of sounds if you mean. It is a combination of pictogram, ideogram and phonetic. We are still using the evolved forms of the Chinese characters created 4 thousands years ago, Chinese today can pretty much read what was written more more than 2 thousands years ago, and we dont want to give up that and just adopt a phonetic spelling language. If foreigners want to learn, they will learn, otherwise just be it. I dont know what you mean Chinese is not for masses, China has a literacy rate in Chinese of 99.8% of Chinese citizens, one of the highest in the world.

Thats the point! Learning english requires 26 symbols and their juxtaposition. Learning Chinese requires learning 3000 symbols.

Imagine a world in which computer keyboard was developed straight from Chinese without any english and input method editor.

I once learnt how to use Japanese dictionary for Kanji. It was so god damn hard and stupid. You have to understand which "radical" or part of Kanji (Chinese characters stolen by Japanese) make other Kanji so you can look up the dictionary. Its hard as hell!

If you come across a charecter and you do not even know how to pronounce it, you have to rely on radical approach to look into its meaning in dictionary. And radical approach is just plain stupid and arbitrary. Then there is stroke counts. And that is completely arbitrary as well. What makes one stroke or two is an arbitrary convention based on history.

With english, so long you know 26 letters and the A B C D sequence, you are all set to used dictionary! No one even tought me how to use a dictionary and I learnt it by age of 6.

Look at English - it was a peasant’s language until the 17th century.

English aristocracy spoke Latin and French till then.

Translation of the bible to English was also a key driver.

English only took off in the 18th century and went through meticulous refinement in the latter half of the 18th century.

Chinese never went through refinement.

The ruling class spoke Urdu and English in Bengal.

Tagore and co made Bengali the language of the gentry in first half of 20th century.

Korean alphabet is a relatively recent invention, and it's designed to be easy to learn.

Chinese will never use something like the Korean system just based on phonetic sounds. Such simple system is not sophiscated enough to represent Chinese language, ideas and culture. Koreans today still use some Chinese characters in some places to be distinguishable.

English has already taken over the world and there is no going back. Chinese language with 100,000 different characters is even difficult for the native Chinese speakers. English has 26 alphabet set for the key board while the Chinese has no equivalent. Chinese Communist Party oppose teaching English as second language in most of their primary schools. French and Spanish worlds have also accepted English primacy but only some Chinese supremacists and their paid agents are advocating it.
