Pakistan's Special Operations Forces: SSG | SSGN | SSW | SOW | SOG

On September 23, 1995, Lieutenant Commander Noor ul Islam heroically led the Pakistan Navy's X-Craft 01 crew during a perilous training exercise near Karachi.

While underneath deep waters, a blocked trash ejector caused the midget submarine to flood and sink, Noor's decisive leadership shone through. In pitch darkness and rising water, he rallied his team, guiding their escape via the bridge trunk, ensuring all 14 crew members survived after eight hours at sea, rescued by a missile boat.

His courage and quick thinking under pressure saved lives, later inspiring the Navy's successful salvage and upgrade of the submarine, restoring it to service.
