It could be a provocation just to get a reply from the real Pak fauj, no point going after their suicide boy cannon fodder.

This is a hasty decision. First they should have attacked then revoke the IWT if Pakistan respond . Idiotic decision making.

As of now there is no link to Pakistan....it's basically we just want to blame Pakistan and punish Pakistan via a water treaty

India is likely not gonna do anything, they no longer have the confidence after their last attempt. Modi is too much of a coward bully, and just like all cowardly-bullies, if they face a bit of push back, they crumble.

IWT being "suspended" means nothing, and India will continue to honour it once everything will settle down; Not because they want to honour it, but rather because they know Pakistan would consider it an act of war.

I had assumed that they would use a revocation of the IWT as a preventative measure against a Pakistani retaliation....but clearly not.

They may be willing to take the gloves off entirely here. In the long run, China will however develop dam systems in Tibet to counter any potential Indian Damming too.
If Pakistan is made to suffer through damming of the Indus then China will almost definitely do the same to India, so this situation is in gridlock right now essentially.

And thats exactly why I take India's "suspension" as nothing more than chest thumping.

Once things settle down, things will go back to normal.

You mean Pak may not consider this an ' act of war' till things ' settle down' ?

Suspending an treaty on the onset of summers must have implications to both the lower riparian state and the Upper one too. Especially in areas where options to divert the water internally are immense

IWT was made about 65 years ago and is of immense importance to retaining some semblance of ties between the two countries. There have been several full wars and skirmishes between the two countries since 1960 but the Treaty stood. But over a relatively minor incident like what happened yesterday, the Indian govt has taken such an extreme step. It is hard not to think that there are bigger forces at play here. The global chess board is rapidly moving its players and countries are taking sides.
But I hope you are right!!

Look, you know that if India was capable of striking a mortal blow to Pakistan then India would have taken the Pakistani part of Kashmir, which Pakistan acquired by 1949. That's a sizable chunk of strategic land!! You won't be fighting a World War One like war against Pakistan, even if the nukes were not the factor. The East Pakistan situation was totally different.
