https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2025/06/trump-second-term-comeback/682573/ ‘I Run the Country and the World’

Trump, in an interview with The Atlantic, claimed, "I run the country and the world." This is the same magazine whose editor-in-chief, Jeffrey Goldberg, was once at the center of a major controversy with the Trump administration. Goldberg had been inadvertently included in a Defense Department group chat discussing plans for bombing Yemen, leading to a barrage of insults from Trump, his national security adviser, and the Secretary of Defense. They labeled Goldberg a "third-rate journalist" and dismissed The Atlantic as a "failing magazine." Yet, in a surprising twist, Trump has now chosen to grant an interview to the very publication he once derided.

His claim that he "runs the country and the world" is not only arrogant but also deeply disconnected from reality. While the United States undeniably holds a position as a global superpower, the notion that its president single-handedly governs the world is absurd. This mindset may explain why his administration has led the country into unwinnable trade wars and tariff disputes, particularly with China. Despite imposing steep tariffs of up to 145%, Trump now appears desperate to negotiate, even fabricating claims of ongoing discussions.

His inability to resolve the Ukraine-Russia conflict further highlights the limitations of his leadership. Trump had boldly declared that he would end the war on the very day he was elected. However, it has now been nearly 100 days since his presidency began, and the conflict remains unresolved. Concessions to Russia, including agreeing to nearly all of their demands, have yielded no progress, as KGB thug continues to dismiss Trump's overtures.

Similarly, Trump's pledge to bring peace to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has proven to be another unfulfilled promise. His administration's efforts have failed to produce any meaningful resolution, leaving the region as volatile as ever.

Adding to the chaos, with U.S. and global financial markets tumbling, Trump abruptly suspended his administration's "reciprocal tariffs" on dozens of other countries for 90 days. He acknowledged that the bond market was "getting a little queasy," a rare admission of the economic instability caused by his policies.

These examples underscore the reality that while the U.S. president wields significant influence, they do not "run the world." Global leadership requires collaboration, diplomacy, and respect for the sovereignty of other nations—qualities that Trump's approach often lacks.

Most of us don't want Canada.
While we may come from opposite ends of the political spectrum, I agree with you on this—Canada should remain an independent neighbor. My reasons stem from valuing sovereignty and mutual respect, while yours might differ, but it's refreshing to find common ground.

SARS coronavirus type 2 is no longer an issue. Just as wild gray wolf evolved into pug, the original SARS coronavirus type 2 in 2019 evolved into LP.8.1.1 which is no longer dangerous to humans. Hospitalization rate is way down.

As I mentioned earlier, this is an ongoing discussion with no clear endpoint. At its core, it is a health issue—one that impacts not only the well-being of our loved ones and ourselves but also the health of our fellow citizens and the global community.

The potential emergence of new variants remains a concern, as mutations could increase transmissibility, bypass immunity, or result in more severe illnesses. However, vaccination efforts, natural immunity, and advancements in treatment have significantly reduced the risk of severe outcomes.

Even if you don't agree with vaccines, their benefits, or whatever measures you believe can best protect your family, yourself, your neighbors, and your fellow countrymen, staying informed and adhering to public health guidelines remain critical steps to safeguard everyone.

Trump is stupid to want Canada to begin with. Even when conservative wins in Canada, they are more liberal than the GOP in the US, which mean if Canada as a whole become the US 51st State, I have no doubt if the election method and detail are unchanged, they are going to be aligned to how states like NY or CA vote, that would mean you are adding the electoral vote of NY and CA (they have a similar population) to the Dem, that's going to effectively shut off GOP government making it very hard to have a GOP President.

You might find that we might have more common ground than you think.

The law of diminishing marginal return. Vaccine is beneficial as long as it is not overused. Overuse leads to harm. In China there is an old saying. 是药三分毒. All drugs are poisonous. Over vaccinating the elderly will kill them.

""Risk of COVID-19 was lower among those previously infected with an XBB or more recent lineage and increased with the number of vaccine doses previously received."

Exactly right, it seems clear that he has no clue what he’s talking about—or perhaps this is just another distraction from his disastrous policies. While I’m not deeply immersed in Canadian politics, I do see parallels between the Canadian Conservatives and the Reaganite brand of the Republican Party, which is now almost extinct. Trump has transformed the GOP into a MAGA-driven entity, a stark departure from Reagan’s policies and ideals.

For fun, let’s imagine Canada becoming the 51st state of the United States. Currently, the 50 states divide up 435 congressional representatives. California, our largest state with over 39 million people, has 52 seats in the House of Representatives. Canada, with a population exceeding 40 million, would likely have more than 52 seats in the House, plus two Senators. Alternatively, if we consider Canada’s 13 provinces individually, the political landscape would become even more chaotic—especially for the Republican Party. Imagine the implications of that. Lol

Trump’s actions have had an unexpected ripple effect on Canadian politics, inadvertently giving the Liberals a much-needed boost. Across democracies, voter frustration often paves the way for opposition parties to seize power, and Canada seemed ready to follow this pattern. For much of last year, the Conservatives enjoyed a commanding 20-point lead in national polls, making their path to forming the next government appear all but certain.

Trump’s threats, tariffs, and his bizarre rhetoric about turning Canada into the 51st state have had unintended consequences. Thanks to his heavy-handed approach, the Liberals have narrowly secured victory in the election. Ironically, the very figure who transformed American conservatism into a MAGA-driven movement has inadvertently bolstered Canadian Liberals, helping them retain power.

Liberals owe a big thanks to Trump’s blabbermouth antics.
