There was a video, where he said that Pakistan might potentially be an overmatch for India, that was laughed out of the room, but clearly right now Pakistan is a china reinforced front.

Yes, one F-16 was lost due to fratricide but the pilot survived and was rescued . 11 Soviet aircraft were downed but in addition a number Afghan Air Force planes were downed or forced to land intact inside Pakistan. The "Abhinandan" of the era , the most famous shoot down and pilot capture was Alexander Rutskoy a top Soviet pilot and senior commander flying a Su-25. Rutskoy was shot down on. August 4, 1988. Oddly enough this incident wasn't publicized at all even though Rutskoy spent many months in captivity as a prisoner of war.
