Then there is issue of ceasefire. Actually, the best day for Pakistan to call for one was on 7th itself. It had already done the maximum damage and with ceasefire, it would have denied India any chance to salvage the day one losses.
Right. And I believe Pakistan was ready to accept a ceasefire after May 7 but India kept sending in drones to probe Pakistan's defenses. I think it is also possible that foreign countries convinced Pakistan to call it a day after making a token strike; one Pakistani analyst said that Saudis had convinced Pakistan to consider May 7 a victory and stop. But it was India which was duplicitous about the ceasefire as India knew it was humiliated on May 7 and had to (and still has to!) appear to be a winner.
Speaking of the ceasefire: Anyone recall in the first version of this thread right after May 7. Our posts are still there. Most people here wanted Pakistan to go into India or at least escalate massively. I was on the fence or for stopping the conflict. It was me and a few others who took the unpopular route of calling it day. I had even used a gambling parlance: 'Get out while ahead'. But most here thought downing jets wasn't enough to avenge the death of Pakistani civilians. Truth is that Pakistan too had killed Indian soldiers across the LOC in the May 7 encounter.
Who initiated on May 10 is unclear to me.
