I agree the US is involved now but the initial attack may have been done by Israel itself without getting US green light. The US was surely involved in planning but maybe not in pulling the initial trigger. Israel knows that the US will have to support it no matter what the administration says in public.

There are reports saying that Trump admits he vetoed Netanyahu's plan to assassinate or take out Iranian Supreme leader Khamenei. So, US know the plan all along and gave green light for Israel to attack.
