The unwashed masses remain subservient and in a state of obedience to the governmental mantra unless and until pushed to some form of personal breaking point (in this case, the issue is that of financial compensation).

Yes, he is Dalit, which is by definition a subservient group, but we should not forget that the vast majority of Indian citizens ("dalitised" regardless of religious persuasion) also yield fully to govermental narratives, perhaps in many cases in the interests of their own personal security.

In ANY NORMALLY FUNCTIONAL nation state, especially in one where - we are told - democratic process and rule of law apply above all else, any individual with a modicum of intellect and desire to preserve the dignity of their kin would have raised hell by now over the government's complete silence for their own martyrs. It has been over 2 months since an act of war that killed pilots and bystander civilians but the government remains shameless in its silence and the people are too simple and subservient to challenge them.

Likewise, any functional media or opposition would have dragged Modi over the coals for his dishonourable treatment of India's fallen, but we all know that the "free press" in India is in bed with the BJP either out of (a) genuine ideological alignment, (b) fear of "tax raids", (c) fear of direct censorship, or (d) fear of violent retribution from government affiliated thugs. The opposition party suffers from more or less the same roster of dissuasive methods available to the goverment.

Modi's India is a nation where, sadly, even the dead do exactly what the establishment tells them to do.
