Just to point out India has done a good job in alleviating poverty e.g. free school meals scheme, subsidies for poor families on essentials such as wheat, free health care.

Honestly, I’m pretty confused. A lot of people here say India is on the side of the U.S., while Pakistan, China, Iran, and Russia should form an alliance against it.

But when India back Russia and support against the U.S., those same people claim the india doing mistakes.

So either way, India gets criticized.

But from our side, this shows something else: how independent India’s foreign policy really is. We’re not blindly picking sides — we’re doing what’s best for our people. Walking a tightrope between global powers isn’t easy, but it’s far more respectable than just taking the easy route and choosing a camp.

Other hands, Pakistan being neighbours of oil and gas rich country - iran , can't export it oil or gas, 1000 to 1500 km distance from Saudi, Kuwait, Iraq etc but after making Happy to Trump, buying oil from USA with 12000 km distance with paying 5-6 more shipping costs - claiming great victory ✌️.

Seriously it's a warning for china - Pakistan can sit to USA officers with a just simple calls, and more challenges for iran in the future.... If situation with get worst, likely they would be seeing missiles and aircrafts from their east border

Trump forces India to confront its Russia problem

India is continuing to buy weapons and fuel from Russia, placing strain on New Delhi’s relationship with Washington.

India and the United States carefully managed their relationship during the first Trump administration, but this has proven to be more challenging during his second term. Donald Trump’s own changing stance on Russia and his frustration with being unable to end the Russia-Ukraine war has complicated India’s own calculations about its ties with Russia.

New Delhi’s relationship with Moscow was a problem during the Biden administration. Though both New Delhi and Washington worked around it, it was never fully resolved. Initially, India was under the impression that Trump’s sympathy for Vladimir Putin would remove this irritant, and did for a while. But the issue has returned. Trump appears enraged that India continues to buy from Russia despite Western sanctions and is pushing for secondary sanctions on countries buying Russian oil. Unless managed with deftness, these developments could derail the US-India relationship.

It has taken more than two decades and a lot of political capital in both New Delhi and Washington to foster the kind of trust that has come to shape the relationship. Previous US administrations showed leniency on India’s relationship with Russia, believing that New Delhi could not cut Moscow off overnight after decades of defence dependency. The US recognised the legacy problem India faced with Russian defence platforms.

India has made efforts to diversify its defence procurement over the past fifteen years, procuring arms from the US, France, Israel and others. According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, while Russian weapons still made up 36 percent of Indian arms imports in 2020-2024, this was significantly lower than in 2015-2019, which stood at 55 percent, and far lower than the 72 percent in 2010-2014. A SIPRI factsheet on international arms transfers also notes that India ‘is shifting its arms supply relations towards Western suppliers, most notably France, Israel and the USA … the shift is also visible in India’s new and planned orders for major arms, most of which will come from Western suppliers.’

India has also increased its import of Russian energy sources. According to one Indian estimate from the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air, India ‘bought fossil fuels worth EUR 205.84 billion from Russia from the beginning of the war until March 2, 2025.’ India’s energy imports from Russia went from ‘less than 1 percent of its total crude oil imports to a staggering 40 percent in a short period.’

While the Biden administration was not enthused by the lack of Indian support for its Western partners following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Washington demonstrated prudence. It kept the larger strategic goals in sight and did not let India’s actions derail the relationship. Despite the US-led sanctions and large-scale criticism of Moscow from India’s security partners, India did not side with the US and its other partners in the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, Australia and Japan, instead claiming strategic autonomy.

But Trump may have altered course and pushed India to re-examine its choices. The US has always been a critical player in bringing down India-Pakistan tensions, but previous administrations have better understood Indian sensitivities and have usually been discrete about Washington’s role. But this was not the case with Trump. His inability to comprehend Indian sensitivities did not go down well in India, nor did his claims multiple occasions that he mediated the India-Pakistan ceasefire. Equally insensitive was Trump’s imposition of tariffs and other penalties on India because of its relationship with Russia. Trump has managed to bring India’s political right and left together in opposing the US, making the problem harder for the Modi administration.

According to government officials, India intends to remain ‘measured, calibrated and professional’ in its responses. There have been no threats of retaliatory tariffs on the US. Indian media reports note that India is still hopeful that it will soon sign a bilateral trade agreement aimed at increasing trade from the current US$200 billion to US$500 billion by 2030. Officials have said that when trade talks are on ‘a fast-track mechanism and when bilateral engagements are well entrenched, any immediate reaction is unwarranted.’

While this measured response should appreciated, India also needs to tread carefully. India cannot afford to lose sight of the long-term threat that China poses. Despite China and India’s attempts to reach agreements, the longer-term prospects are not great. This means that the no-limits China-Russia partnership needs to be carefully considered in India’s national security calculations. China is Russia’s most important partner, and if faced with a choice between India and China, Moscow will likely side with Beijing. This is a reality that New Delhi needs to understand. In any case, Trump, in his typically rough manner, has pushed India to consider its choices more frontally.
 
The Indians have been playing the act of not being able to cut relations with Russia overnight. After many years, the Indians have now changed their tune and don't want to break relations with Russia.

The Indians often claim that they will look after their interests at all cost. Including playing all sides for their own benefit. It looks like Trump isn't buying this Indian approach anymore.
 
Bharat has been served a cost function to optimize with conflicting boundary conditions. It has become like in b/w the horns of a dialema for her. Analyzing in a differential manner, I have to admit the competence of the Pak Deep State in maintaining this geo-strategic delicate balance like a top class juggler to constantly hold and throw the hot potatoes in a systematic fashion, so that they neither fall on the ground nor burn his/her hands!
