USN's VLS cannot be reloaded at sea and they would have to travel to Diego Garcia to reload, it is a numbers game

The US naval ships moving at 30 knots are not different from the commercial ships being targeted in the Strait of Hormuz at 20 knots for those anti-ship ballistic missiles at Mach 10.

It looks like Iran was previously restrained to not attack on the US naval ships.
