I urge all media outlets, forums, and discussions to change the framing of the current situation from “Gaza conflict” to “Occupation of Palestine.” The focus on Gaza alone minimises the broader context of the Palestinian struggle and aligns with narratives that attempt to reduce the long-standing issues faced by Palestinians to a single area.
By using terms like “Gaza conflict,” the discourse is narrowed, distracting from the historical and ongoing occupation of all Palestinian lands, including Jerusalem, the West Bank, and beyond. This language shift is a deliberate attempt to fragment the Palestinian identity and overshadow the reality of occupation, displacement, and systemic oppression faced by the entire Palestinian people.
We recommend changing the title to “Occupation of Palestine” to accurately reflect the reality of the situation. This change in terminology is a powerful way to support the Palestinian cause and honour the sacrifices of the indigenous people who continue to resist and endure under occupation. Let us stand in solidarity by ensuring the language we use captures the full scope of the struggle, not just a fraction of it.
The issue at hand is not just about Gaza—it is about the whole of Palestine. Renaming the discussion appropriately is a step toward recognising and supporting the full context of the Palestinian people’s fight for justice.
