The money will help preserve things from Mehrgarh, which is the earliest known farming civilization in South Asia.

Ambassador Donald Blome said this shows that the United States cares about Balochistan's cultural heritage.

The US is supporting the fixing up of 33 old places in Pakistan, like mosques, Buddhist monasteries, Hindu monuments, Sufi shrines, and things from the Mughal Empire that existed a long time ago.

In another announcement, Caretaker Minister for Culture and Heritage, Jamal Shah, said they're starting a special TV channel to promote the cultural heritage of Pakistan.

This channel will have translated versions of different kinds of regional literature, so people everywhere can understand the wisdom of our diverse country

Balochistan launches large-scale solar projects under CPEC

Feb 7, 2024

ISLAMABAD, Feb. 8 (Gwadar Pro)- Balochistan Caretaker Chief Minister Mir Ali Mardan Khan Domki on February 6 inaugurated a extensive solarization project of converting of various public department buildings including educational, institutions, healthcare facilities and civic departments over renewables that will provide clean, affordable and uninterrupted power supply to the public facilities of Balochistan.

The Balochistan government, with the support of Chinese government, has completed the solarization of 12 educational institutions, computer labs & hospitals that have been equipped with modern solar power facilities.

The Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong participated in the inaugural ceremony and expressed his views through video link held at Chief Minister’s secretariat.
Pakistan's total solar installed capacity was 1.24 GW by 2022, representing a 17 percent increase over 2021.

The government has proposed many initiatives to increase the share of solar energy in the country. By now, Pakistan’s Solar Energy Market is estimated to increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 49.68 percent from 1.30 gigatonnes in 2023 to 9.77 gigatonnes in 2028.

Solar Irradiance of Pakistan

In the specific case of Balochistan, according to the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Program, Pakistan's total technical solar and wind potentials are 2,900 GW and 340 GW, respectively.

Additionally, Balochistan has the potential to implement greater than 14 GW of Renewable energy within 5-10 years through least-cost pathways, including PV utility scale plants of 9,500 - 11,500 MWp. Balochistan's geography, irradiance, and location make it one of Pakistan's most high-potential provinces, with respect to renewables.

Decentralized microgrids paired with solar generation could be used to increase reliable electricity access for rural residents. While microgrids generally only provide basic electrification (high quality lighting and charging of a mobile phone), it is able to do so for multiple households at a significantly lower cost over in the long run. An estimated 36 percent of Balochistan is electrified, so this pairing has immense potential for the province. In the future, the province is poised to become the country’s most booming solar power growth hub.

QUETTA: The Balochistan government on Wednesday announced the conversion of 30,000 agricultural tube wells to solar power to address the scarcity of irrigation water across the province.

The decision was announced by Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti in a press conference with his ministers, marking a significant shift towards sustainable energy solutions in the province.

Addressing journalists, Chief Minister Bugti highlighted the successful negotiations with farmers who had been demonstrating outside the Assembly for the past week in the provincial metropolis.

“It is good that not even a flower pot was broken in the protest,” he remarked, expressing relief over the peaceful negotiations.

Chief Minister Bugti detailed the financial aspects of the initiative, stating that the federal government would contribute Rs40 billion while the provincial government would provide an additional Rs10 billion to this end.

“In a month’s time, all landowners will have tube wells converted to solar energy which will completely address their grievances,” Bugti promised, emphasizing the swift implementation of the project.

In Balochistan, the Pakistan Army has established the first cadet college for girls with the support of the United Arab Emirates, where 400 female students are studying from eighth to twelfth standard with modern facilities.

This institution is not only playing a significant role in the field of education but also in discipline and character building.
