Pakistan signs largest ever fighter jet sale deal with Azerbaijan

Abbas Ganbay

Pakistan Aeronautical Complex signed largest export deal in Pakistan's history with Azerbaijan Air Force, Azernews reports.

The deal for JF-17C Block-III fighter jets was signed for $1.6bn, including aircraft, training and ammunition, Pakistani media reported.

The Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) is a big company that produces airplanes and other things for the military in Pakistan. It was started in 1971 by the Pakistan Air Force. They make and fix airplanes for the Pakistani military and also for other countries.

They work with companies from Turkiye and China to make some of their products. The PAC also has businesses in other countries like Myanmar, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. In the past, the Pakistan Air Force realized that they needed a place to fix their airplanes instead of sending them to other countries. So, they made a factory called the Aircraft Rebuild Factory (ARF) in Kamra.

They also made another factory called the Mirage Rebuild Factory (MRF) to fix a different kind of airplane. These factories were built with the help of experts from China and France.

Maybe this was true

"Pakistan’s JF-17 ‘Shoots Down’ Six Rafale Fighters During Turkish Wargame?

The report is based on the multinational “Anatolian Eagle” exercise conducted in June 2021 between Turkey, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, and Qatar at a Turkish Air Force base. The participating aircraft in the exercise were Turkish F-16s, Pakistan’s JF-17 “Thunder” Block II, Qatar’s Rafale, and Azerbaijan’s MiG-29 and Su-25 “Frogfoot”.

The report claimed that the exercise allowed the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) to test the mettle of JF-17s, developed in collaboration with China, against the French Dassault Rafale fighter jets of the Qatar Air Force.

The French fighter jet Rafale, meaning ‘Gust of Wind,’ has been the latest induction in the Indian Air Force (IAF), PAF’s arch-nemesis.

The said report quotes “unconfirmed sources” to claim “the kill-ratio of JF-17 aircraft against the Qatar Rafale aircraft was 6:2, meaning the JF-17 Block II aircraft shot down Rafales six times compared to only two losses in air combat simulations during the exercise.” No details about the missions flown have been given."

Could be true.
If this deal goes through I believe there will be more orders from some other friendly countries too.

Pakistan Secures Historic $1.6 Billion Defense Deal with Azerbaijan for JF-17 Fighter Jets
Amidst the bustling international arms market, a new chapter unfolds as Pakistan clinches a groundbreaking export contract, earmarking a pivotal leap in its defense production and diplomatic prowess. With a handshake that reverberates through the corridors of power in Islamabad and Baku, the two nations ink a deal valued at an astounding $1.6 billion. The centerpiece of this historic agreement? The sale of JF-17 Block III fighter aircraft to Azerbaijan, a move that not only promises to bolster Azerbaijan's military capabilities but also catapults Pakistan into the limelight as a key player in the global defense industry.

The JF-17 Block III: A Game-Changer in Modern Combat

The JF-17 Thunder, born out of a collaboration between Pakistan and China, represents a blend of versatility, power, and cost-effectiveness. Designed to meet the myriad demands of contemporary warfare, the JF-17 has carved a niche for itself among modern fighter jets. However, it is the Block III variant that truly sets the bar higher. Equipped with state-of-the-art avionics, enhanced firepower, and superior combat capabilities, the JF-17 Block III variant emerges as a formidable contender in the skies. For Azerbaijan, this acquisition signifies a quantum leap in defense, positioning it as a formidable force in the region.

Strengthening Ties, Shaping Futures

This monumental deal does more than just exchange military hardware for currency; it weaves a stronger bond between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, laying down a foundation for future collaborations. Beyond the immediate economic influx, this agreement underscores Pakistan's commitment to fostering robust military and diplomatic relationships across the globe. It also highlights the JF-17 Block III's ascending trajectory in the international defense market, setting a new benchmark for Pakistan's defense exports. In a world where geopolitical alignments and military capabilities are in constant flux, this deal stands as a testament to Pakistan's strategic vision and Azerbaijan's ambition to modernize its armed forces.

The Global Defense Market: A New Contender Emerges

As the dust settles on this landmark agreement, the implications for the global defense market are profound. The JF-17 Block III's competitive pricing and advanced features position it as an attractive alternative to more expensive Western and Russian models. This deal not only showcases the aircraft's capabilities but also signals Pakistan's arrival as a serious contender in the defense export arena. With an eye on diversification and expanding its footprint, Pakistan's defense industry looks set to challenge the status quo, offering nations around the world a viable route to modernizing their air forces without breaking the bank.

As nations continue to navigate the complex web of international relations and military modernization, the Pakistan-Azerbaijan defense deal stands as a beacon of strategic partnership and technological advancement. Amidst a landscape often dominated by traditional powerhouses, the emergence of new players like Pakistan marks a shift towards a more balanced and dynamic global defense ecosystem. As the JF-17 Block III takes to the skies, it carries with it the aspirations of two nations, keen on writing a new chapter in their storied histories.

Success stories against other air forces in friendly exercises is one thing but the real success comes from the fact that JF-17 has actually participated in real combat both against India and much recently against Iran. Both times PAF came on top. This alone should propel the sale of JF-17 in the international market coupled with reasons like no strings attached and cost effectiveness compared to more expensive western counterparts.

This is fake news propagated by social media accounts and which seems to be picked up an Azeri outlet with less than 15k twitter followers.

I have a lot of respect for @Windjammer but unless this news is confirmed by official sources or carried by mainstream media, it stands as fake news & moderators should close this thread and others like it.

If true, Thanks to Russian who guaranteed supply of engines and Chinese guarantee supply of parts. Big strategic move by Russians, never let Azerbaijan to buy American equipment. Let's wait and see Western reaction. Otherwise they can buy Western equipment.
