Any news on the WS-15 equipped ones? last I heard low rate initial production had started.

No, latest news was, two prototypes are flying and so far only one with WS-15 … testing is going on at the CFTE and FTTC but I don‘t think they already started LRIP.

and so far only one with WS-15

dual engine? or one WS-10C and the other WS-15?

Janes was saying they were ready for mass production. But if only 1 engine on an aircraft is being tested, it seems they aren't ready for production. But I guess we will see in 2024.

Sorry in case I misunderstood your post And yes, so far J-20A no. 2051 is still powered by two WS-10C, the second prototype no. 2052 has indeed two WS-15 installed and concerning LRIP, that‘s for the engines, but not for the J-20A.

Not sure if this image of J-20A number 2052 was already posted.

According to Sha-sa channel (Chinese) on YouTube, the J-20 has max speed of 2.2 Mach and cruise speed without afterburner of 1.8 Mach using WS-15 engines. I just checked Wikipedia, it shows the same thing in Chinese language. Can someone confirm it? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XM9b_KkudhY

Well, ... as long as almost anyone can change Wiki, I would be VERRRRY careful with such claims.

I saw those numbers bounced around on SDF a while back. Seems plausible given how monstrous the WS-15s are.

Mach 2.2 with WS-15 isn't very far fetched.

It is … on paper and thrust-wise it surely should be doable, but does such a speed make any sense? What are the consequences for the airframe, RAM-coating and so on …
