China’s MASSIVE Desert Project Is About To Change The World. This is the biggest solar power plant in the United States, located in Kern, California. The Solar Star Plant is over 8 square miles and has a generation capacity of 579 megawatts, powering around 255,000 homes. This is impressive, but about 6,500 miles away, in this remote desert, there's a solar facility that could dwarf it and just about every other solar power plant on Earth.

Cool, now lets do north africa and west central asia.

About half of the area of the Sahara could produce enough electricity for the world. Such is the abundance of solar energy available there. It is the logistics that represent the problem.

It's been discussed for a while but there are, er, challenges...

If 1.2% of the desert—around 110,000 square kilometers—is covered with solar panels, it would be enough to satisfy the entire world’s energy needs.

only geopolitical ones, technicalities are minor problem beside fact that the arabs would become once again most important energy provider in the world.
