China is expediting work on CPEC phase-II to materialise the dream of a shared future in the new era for the benefit of the two nations, says Chinese Consul General in Lahore Zhao Shiren.

“Pakistan and China are all-weather strategic cooperative partners, and Beijing hopes to work with Islamabad to reach new heights of iron-clad friendship,” Mr Zhao said at an Iftar dinner hosted by Institute of International Relations and Media Research (IIRMR) Chairman Muhammad Mehdi on Saturday.

Iranian Consul General in Lahore Mehra Movahed said his country stood fully prepared to expand and deepen its all-out ties with Pakistan. Turkish Consul General in Lahore Durmus Bastug felicitated the PML-N-led coalition government, saying fraternal relations between Islamabad and Ankara would deepen and expand in the new era.

He said that following in the footsteps of glorious congeniality between the two countries, Turkiye would always stand by Pakistan.

The last PLM-N administration was the progenitor of CPEC. The PTI regime tried to stifle CPEC with rolls of red tape in the name of CPEC Authority. The Chinese were open in their disillusionment with the PTI governments handling of CPEC.

With PM Sharif at the helm again, CPEC will be put back on track. Pakistan is open for business again (y)

All of a sudden CPEC is a good thing for Pakistan, since Jamadars have killed it.

I understand that a significant amount of CPEC 'investments' are loans that average at 3% rates (as per some think tanks study estimates). CPEC's transit corridor's success is also limited by the fact that 95% of China's population lies on the eastern half of the country.

However, I've always maintained that CPEC is not a real 'debt trap' as most critics claim. Pakistan can indefinitely get CPEC loans deferred as long as Pakistan remains India's natural enemy. Pakistan should also not align with any western policy that directly conflicts with China's primary interests. Pakistani establishment and political class understand this loophole very well and are adept at exploiting it. The 'free money' will be used to build infrastructure in Pakistan by an effective administrator like PM Shehbaz (y)

Too much Biryani eaten today
PM Shehbaz has earned the reputation as an effective administrator from his tenure as the CM of Punjab. This is what I've read from neutral Pakistanis on this forum 🙂

Yeah, yeah, closet Patwari

Check rates of hydro projects sponsored via world bank like dasu or tarbela iv/v and Chinese IPPs

Check rates of coal power plants

Check the difference in cost in feasibility report of ML1 and the Asian bank study

All of this material is available online verified and noted

Anyone with simple math can come to conclusion that issue isn't the cost of debt but transparency of the projects itself with single bidding to already appointment Chinese companies

I love your optimism my friend

Yes The Sharifs have always enjoyed good relationship with China and the whole of Middle East, no matter how much we criticise them within Pakistan.

PML-N has always been pro-business political party and even the foreign nations acknowledge it so we may see some revival in CPEC, it cannot be ruled out.

I don't think it si due to business or 'friendly' govt at isloo, it is in Chinese stategic interests that they keep engaging Pakistan. Also, they have already invested so much that they cannot retract easily.

PMLN has always been pro-corruption party. They love starting big projects without calculating their long-term feasibility, which results in them turning into white elephants a few years later. Peeli Taxi scheme, Lahore metro, Sahiwal Coal Power Plant to name a few…
