Apparently militants drive in a truck full of explosives followed by ground assault.

Terror organisation Tehreek-e-Jihad Pakistan claimed responsibility.

Nothing on tv as of yet.
I've been to daraban many times, it's a small town, formerly part of FATA. I doubt it has a huge police complex.

Daraban doesn't even have any army presence.
Infact on that entire route, there are hardly 2-3 FC posts which have less than 5 troops at a time.
I Daraban there aren't even any cops, you can even buy cheap hash from local shops or kiosks.

wtf? the numbers being reported are huge........ any confirmation? This all seems like fake news

I don't know about the location and the military distribution of that region. But TeJ did released video of the attack (too graphic to post). Militants had night vision equipments and they were practically taking turkey shots at soldiers. Video shows atleast 7-8 soldiers getting sniped.

At least 23 killed as fighters storm police station in northwest Pakistan

Explosives-packed vehicle is rammed into station used by army as a base in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as fighters open fire.

Fighters have stormed a military post in northwestern Pakistan, killing at least 23 people in a gun and suicide bomb attack, according to the Pakistani military.
The incident took place on Tuesday in the town of Daraban, about 60km (37 miles) from Dera Ismail Khan city, in the restive province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, located at the edge of the lawless tribal regions bordering Afghanistan.

The fighters rammed a vehicle laden with explosives into the main gate of the police station, followed by a suicide bombing attack, said a statement by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Pakistani army’s media branch.
“The resulting blasts led to the collapse of the building, causing multiple casualties,” the ISPR said, adding that six attackers who took part in the assault were killed.
At least 34 people were injured and taken to a military hospital in Dera Ismail Khan, sources in the rescue team told Al Jazeera.
The ISPR said that “sanitisation operations are being conducted to eliminate any other terrorist present in the area”.
Pakistani group Tehreek-e-Jihad Pakistan (TJP) said in a statement that its fighters carried out the attack aimed at the Pakistani army.

Former Pakistan Taliban stronghold

The TJP claims to be linked to the Pakistani Taliban, known by the acronym TTP, an outlawed armed group which has targeted the state and its institutions for years.
Dera Ismail Khan is a former stronghold of the TTP, which seeks to overthrow the government and replace it with their harsh religious laws.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has witnessed a rise in violence with several deadly attacks. In January, at least 101 people were killed when a suicide bomber targeted a mosque in Peshawar.
Authorities say fighters have become emboldened while living openly in Afghanistan since the Taliban takeover of that country in 2021.
The TTP, though a separate group, is closely allied with the Taliban in Afghanistan.

25 soldiers martyred, 27 terrorists killed in separate incidents in Dera Ismail Khan: ISPR

December 12, 2023

Twenty-five Pakistan Army soldiers were martyred while 27 terrorists were killed in three separate incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan, the military’s media affairs wing said on Tuesday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), “heightened activities” were witnessed in the district on the nights of December 11 and 12.

In the early hours today, a group of six terrorists attacked a security forces’ checkpost in the Daraban general area, it said.
“The attempt to enter the post was effectively thwarted which forced the terrorists to ram an explosive laden vehicle into the post, followed by a suicide bombing attack.

“The resulting blasts led to the collapse of the building, causing multiple casualties; 23 brave soldiers embraced shahadat, while all six terrorists were effectively engaged and sent to hell,” the ISPR said.

It added that sanitisation operations were being conducted to eliminate any other terrorist present in the area. “Security forces of Pakistan are determined to wipe out the menace of terrorism from the country and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthens our resolve,” the ISPR said.

Tehreek-e-Jihad Pakistan, a new group affiliated with the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), claimed responsibility for the attack on the checkpost.

Meanwhile, the ISPR said 17 terrorists were killed in a separate intelligence-based operation in the Darazinda area of Dera Ismail Khan.

️It further stated that two soldiers embraced martyrdom while four more terrorists were neutralised in another intelligence-based operation in the Kulachi area.

“️The killed terrorists were actively involved in numerous terrorist activities against security forces as well as killing of innocent civilians. Weapons, ammunition and explosives were also recovered during the operations,” it added.

This is the military’s highest single-day death toll from terrorist attacks reported this year. Before this, 12 soldiers were martyred in separate military operations in the Zhob and Sui areas of Balochistan in July.

Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar strongly condemned the attack and said the security forces would not be demoralised by such “cowardly acts”, state-run Radio Pakistan reported.
He said the entire nation salutes the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the war against terrorism. The premier also directed authorities to provide the best medical treatment to the injured persons.

Separately in a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Kakar said the “dedication, sacrifice and valor in the face of terror is unparalleled and a beacon of hope for our nation”.

The prime minister also extended his deepest sympathies with the families of brave martyrs. “We will fight back till the menace of terrorism is eliminated from our motherland,” he added.

President Arif Aliv, in a statement, said such cowardly acts could not shake the resolve of the security personnel.

Caretaker Interior Minister Sarfaraz Bugti also condemned the terrorist attack and expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari extended condolences with the grieving families and called attacks on both civilians and security forces unforgivable.

Meanwhile, former president Asif Ali Zardari emphasised the need to eradicate the menace of terrorism. He also prayed for the recovery of the injured.

Former Sindh governor Dr Ishratul Ibad said he was saddened by the heinous attack. “My heartfelt condolences go out to the families of the fallen security men, and I wish for the injured to recover quickly,” he said.

Pakistan has witnessed an uptick in terror activities in recent months, especially in KP and Balochistan, after the TTP ended its ceasefire with the government in November last year.

On Nov 3, a bomb blast targeting police personnel killed five people and injured over 20 others in DI Khan.

On Oct 31, a policeman was martyred after unknown militants opened fire on a police camp in Dera Ismail Khan. That same day, two soldiers were martyred in an IED blast in South Waziristan district.

According to data released by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, the country experienced a 34 per cent increase in anti-state violence last month. It showed KP as the most affected province, documenting 51 attacks, causing 54 fatalities and 81 injuries.

ISPR PRESS RELEASE (12/12/2023)

🔺 Enemy's propaganda and the war against terrorism continues with full force of security forces

Pakistan Army killed 27 terrorists during various operations in the last 24 hours in the areas of Darandza and Daraban near Dera Ismail Khan.

However, a propaganda video has been released by the enemies of TTP which has some lies about today's attack which have nothing to do with reality - below are the facts about this video :-

- In today's attack, a suicide bomber rammed a vehicle full of explosives into a Pakistan Army post - Apart from that, the remaining terrorists were killed immediately -

- So the thermal camera video showing the firing at the post at night is completely fake.
- Some parts of it are made by combining old clips from the internet which have nothing to do with reality -

- During the same operation, all the martyrdoms of the Pakistan Army took place due to the collapse of the roof of the post and the impact of splinters, which killed 23 of our brave soldiers.

- The makers of the video did not use common sense - otherwise the operation would have been over before daylight, so the video of shooting in the day is a lie -

Also, seeing the happiness of the Indian media after this attack and seeing this joint fake presentation video of TTP and Bollywood, it is clear once again that India's money and thought are behind TTP. -

People need to understand the problem is bigger than we believe. It has been 20 years but the problem continues. Anti terrorism laws were created but are used against political opponents. The security forces need to crackdown on terrorist sympathisers, funders, trainers.
