中业岛(Thitu Island) is second largest island in South China sea. In 1956, Republic of China(ROC, which is in Taiwan now) sent troops to guard the island. In 1971, soldiers evacuated from the island to avoid a big typhoon. When the soldiers came back, they found Filipinos had occupied the island when they were not there. The government of Republic China planned to use force to kick Filipinos out. Meanwhile Philippine government asked US government for help. US ordered ROC to stop all military actions. The coward ROC government obeyed this order. From that day, 中业岛(Thitu Island) was controlled by Philippines and became its biggest occupied island in South China sea.

Philippines is a weak country. But "weak" is not necessarily equal to "innocent".

Xi Jinping, as China's president, overall is very competent. But he is too tolerant to China's adversaries. The trade war between China and US has lasted for 7 years. Xi didn't use Rare Earth weapon util this year. Why not use this powerful weapon in 2018? China is overwhelmingly more powerful than India has much advanced weapons. But China still didn't hit back after PLA defeated Indian army's assault. Taiwan treats US as dady and treats China mainland as enemy. So far Taiwanese goods still enjoy beneficial tariff which is called ECFA. Philippines voluntarily serve US as a proxy to constantly challenge China in SCS, Chinese navy did not dare to arrest those Filipinos who enter the redline.
