The more India rises economically
The more technology allows global interactions to trade remotely
The more the rip off fees to immigrate rise
The harder to establish yourself because of cost of living in the west

The more likely people will yearn to return to rural.india
Huge open houses
Land
Slower pace of life
Less crime
It's calmer more relaxed

I love going to Punjab it's so relaxed we have a large house land and so much home help
And I love the relaxed easy laid back Punjabi vibe

Western world is tense tred mill not good for mental well being
Punjab is the opposite laid back

Or maybe more people are trying to illegally cross into the US, and realizing that Canada isn’t worth it, when the US is just next door?

For every 1 that goes back there are probably 100 if not more that want to go to the west.

Some of these people and I have heard seen this in UK too where I live Punjabi people are having second thoughts

To settle in these countries takes a full generation

Some people feel they are better off in Punjab for reason I mentioned

Yes there is poverty and slums but India had hundred of millions that work.

That's why they are heading to five trillion dollars GDP in two years time

It has mega modern cities and vibrant middle class the size of the entire European population
This is catapulting Indian gdp to five trillion dollars by 2026 and ten trillions in decades time
No matter how many slums you count this fact is happening
Coming back to the thread the fact that Indians are beginning to question the decision to pay thousands dollars or pounds to flock to west for a life on the tred mill shows where India is heading

By the way I'm off to my Punjab on the 23,rd Feb and you know what two weeks of bliss away from Corporate world of Barclays in UK is pleasant and relaxing

When you have a population of 1.4 billion and growing, a 5 trillion economy gives you one of the lowest per capita GDPs in the world

BOTH are rubbish, these are some of the lowest GDPs in the world, India however is now in the midst of a massive communal mess that shows why partition was essential in the first place

Indian Muslims mosques, community, history, culture are under attack and they are beginning to respond

On the ground you have PARTITION happening, with people moving to their own areas and indians economically boycotting each other

When I sit in Punjab I have peace sunshine and laid back Punjabi vibe

We have poverty but people are happier than western world in most cases

As for India being a mess
They are yet to go around to the imf or mideast with a begging bowl

Tamils migrate to Singapore a lot. Singapore is second home to them, they've a major community there for centuries.

Mallus do migrate back home in their older years.

Telugus(Hyderabadis) have a lesser trend of coming bac, they settle in the west more often. I guess it's cultural but it's changing.

The people who are in tech field or have established businesses are most likely to come back, people working for blue collar jobs would of course never dream of coming back.
